I had fun with this one!
Again it started with a clasp that I really like. The dragonfly here is made of lead-free pewter in a gold tone in a hook-and-eye style in a most ingenious manner.
Then we put together quite a Bead Stew mix!
We threw in reds and golds and topazes and blacks and a few oranges as well in a glorious medley of colors. If you look very closely you will see not only our "usual" shapes of 6/0s, 8/0s, cubes, triangles, megatamas and tear drops, but also donuts, lentils and a variety of sizes of fire polish crystals. [We added an assortment of fire colors in 4mm rounds, some reds, blacks and oranges in 4mm in an intriguing flattened shape and some larger (much) crystals in varying blacks for a wonderful contrast.]
Then we threaded them onto a metallic gold thread, in a random fashion and began knitting -- these are such easy and rewarding pieces.
The kit contains the bead mix, the thread, the clasp and the pattern (unless you already have it, in which case the option to get the kit without is in the drop-down menu below). You will need to provide your own needles -- we recommend size 0s (2mm).
[Note as of May 27, 2008 -- a customer wrote that to her dismay the hook of this clasp broke off when she went to open it slightly to allow it to slide onto the "eye" of the clasp. Unfortunately the clasp is pewter and this can happen though we only were informed of this occurring the one time. I really like this dragonfly clasp and tell you this reluctantly but I feel you should know the possibility. If you would rather have a "regular" GF toggle clasp for this kit or simply a different one appeals, please let us know as you check out via the "Comments" section. In the meantime, we will hunt around and see if we can find another unique clasp that we can substitute as well.]
Note as of 3/30/11: We will be using a different dragonfly hook & eye clasp that is very well made and looks excellent. The last photo below shows the new one -- we are very pleased. It is a gold-tone lead-free pewter again.
This bracelet is a brilliant rhapsody of fire colors --- we wanted to make our little dragonfly feel like he was a big full-size dragon!
