Hi, I found out about your lovely site whilst searching the net some time ago. You were advertising on a site called Knitty. On that Knitty sight was abeautiful pair of Mrs Beeton Wristwarmers, knitted in Cashmerino (Debbie Bliss) and enhanced by a frill of Kidsilk Haze (also debbie Bliss) They are finished off by beading at the cuff and the end of the frill, they are so pretty. I have made so many pairs and sold them (cheaply) to friends at the school where I teach, the proceeds went to a Breast Care Unit at our hospital here in Cambridge. The pattern is still available and I loved evry minute of choosing and putting on the beads. The pattern is still available, wherever you get your yarns or patterns be sure that the best place for beads is here. Happy knitting, Christine – Christine Perry
I bought this kit as a way to learn how to knit with beads. The instructions in Sivia Harding's pattern are very specific and clear, and the yarn and bead combination was lovely. After finishing it, I feel that I can tackle some of the projects in my queue that involve beads. As a bonus, the project itself is charming, and I just bought two more kits to make gifts. – Kathleen Rogers
These beaded purse kits are the greatest - the instructions are very easy to follow. I have done 2 already and the colors with the matching beads are wonderful. Don't hesitate to try these you'll enjoy making them!! – Susan Morris

From the genius of Sivia Harding, a wonderful project -- a very well-written and easy-to-follow tutorial on beaded knitting that yields you a wonderful finished product in the form of a little purse.
This beaded purse includes several techniques for knitting beads into fabric. After you finish knitting this sampler, you will know lots of ways to knit with beads, including how to make beaded fringe!
With this great pattern comes the kit -- this has everything (except needles and hook) that you need to do the purse including yarn (a minimum of the 40 yards needed, often more), 35g of size 6/0 beads (of our choosing), about 40 beads (plus -- we include extra) of a contrasting color in a different shape to try out (such as cubes, triangles or megatamas), at least two 8mm or larger beads for the drawstring, and a dental floss threader to help with the design.
We strongly suggest a 0.6 mm crochet hook (see our Needles and Hooks section) and about size 3.5 mm or 3.75 mm wooden double point needles. (These aren't included in the kit.)
So we are currently carrying a few kinds of sport weight yarn specifically for making these great little projects. Louet's Gems Merino (100% superwash merino) in sport weight is one that is perfect. We also have some odd skeins of Vespera, a sport weight 100% merino (this one is not superwash, and can felt). And last of all, and undoubtedly the most unique, we have a few of Craft, a yarn made out of cotton (65%) and milk fiber (35%). We only have one color in this, officially called Cathie & Steve, but we are just calling it olive.
The many colors are simply listed on the drop-down menu -- choose your color and we will pick the yarn. If you have a preference on which yarn specifically, email us first. Otherwise we will go by colors.
They all work well with this design-- a perfect opportunity to learn beaded knitting with a good quality smooth yarns.
Each drawstring bag requires only 40 yards of yarn (Sivia recommending either sport weight or fingering weight). We usually break up the larger skeins and rewind them but sometimes (especially if we are rushing) you will end up having significantly more yarn than you need for just one bag.
We are only including enough beads in each kit to make a single bag but if you are interested, just email us about setting up a special web page where you can get another set of beads. Or go to the bead pages and choose some to try out -- a bead stash takes up so much less space than a yarn stash! :-)
Quantities are severely limited on all of these yarns and colors. If it is missing from the drop-down menu, figure it is out of stock. And be prepared with a second choice just in case we didn't get a chance to keep the inventory quite up to date.
The beads will be chosen to look great with whichever color you pick. And those we will be including will have extras as well, but not enough for a second purse.
The photos here show sample bags but are not kits that will be duplicated exactly (or even close). You must use your imagination here -- the photos are for ideas only. You will be getting different yarn and different beads to make a little bag similar to the ones you see and to learn a few very valuable techniques as well.
This is a wonderful little project and makes a lovely gift as well. One friend of mine has made many of these which she then fills with potpourri for delicious scents.
Enjoy!!!
