This is gorgeous.

A new design by Irina Eberhardt, this one is a bit of a departure from her more usual playing with short-rows that I love so much.

The Design

Here is how she describes Dragon's Hug:

Do you see the little dragons? The wings? The pointy heads? Wrap yourself in gentle lace shawl and feel warm in any time and circumstances: in a cool summer evenings, in an air conditioned office or evening theater’s performance… You would not make too far without being complemented on your shawl.

The Yarn
The original shawl was knit out of Mrs Crosby Riticule lace yarn. It could be knit in any lace weight yarn. The size is easy to modify as well - shorter or longer, wider or narrower, depends on the pattern’s repeats.

What we offer on this web page is not the same yarn nor color that Irina used in hers.  You can see what we have in the inset photos on the top picture and again below that.  The other pictures are there so you can see the design.

And notice the next-to-last photo on this page:  the sides of the shawl have a marvelous shape too!

The yarn in this kit is the lace weight Findley from Juniper Moon Farm. Each skein is a 50% merino wool/ 50% silk blend with 798 yards (730 meters) per 100 gram ball (that's about 3.5 ounces).

When I mentioned to Irina that I wanted to use Findley, she replied that she thought that would be a wonderful choice.  She even felt that one skein of it would make a very good size indeed (she had earlier made another version of this shawl which measured17 inch x 67 inch just from 760 yards).

She also said that Findley lace would be a great yarn to knit, especially because it has blend of silk. In her experience, she's found that it helps the shawls to keep their shape for long time without reblocking and gives nice shine to them.
The pattern offers written and charted instructions.

And so each kit here will include one skein of Findley. If you would like to make a larger piece, well then two kits will simply give you two skeins and plenty to make whatever size suits your fancy.

The Colorways

This is a solid colorway of a rich hue.  I find that once Spring comes, I yearn for color and so I indulged here.  :-)

Rappahannock is a deep Capri blue.

Well, really there are no beads in this shawl as designed.  But as I look at it, I can see lots of places in the pattern repeats where a bead (or two or three or ....) could be added and add a wonderful brilliance to the whole.

So if you would like a 25 gram container of size 8/0 beads (about 1,000 beads) added to your order, there is an option that you can set for just that.

Make sure the drop-down menu is set as you would like -- the kit with the yarn alone or the kit including beads.

The beads could be strongly contrasting -- the silver lined crystal on the Rappahonnock would really look like stars just beginning to emerge in the evening sky. Or they could be a somewhat mirror of the yarn color, standing out but not quite so much.

If you have a preference, let me know.  Otherwise I will choose for you.

The Pattern

The kit will not automatically include the pattern.

I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Irina via her Ravelry web page. In that case, make sure the drop-down menu is set to "No Pattern Needed."  And this means that your pattern will be saved in your Ravelry library.

Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, then the "Pattern" drop-down menu should be set to that.

We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and generally do that right before your kit is shipped).

So there are three drop-down menus to set before you check out:  one for the yarn color, one for the form you would like the pattern (or not) and one for if you would like some beads included as well.

This will be great fun!
