I love this one!

This is simply lovely.

Here is how Abbey, of Blackberry Knits describes it:

The Eilir Shawl represents fairy wings. Featuring an unusual construction, the main body is worked from the top down then short rows are worked to give definition to each “wing”. The lace border can then be worked with or without beads. Two sizes are given and they may be worked in any size yarn. A large in worsted yarn and small in fingering yarn with a gauge of 4 st per inch will yield a shawl about 72in x 48 in. It is possible to “change your mind” if you decide to do another size when you reach the end of Part 1. Your yarn requirements will obviously change too.

I think this sounds like tremendous fun!

The instructions for the body of the pattern are written only, with charts only for the lace border.

Figure on yardage for the small 700-900 yards of your choice of yarn and for the large go for 900-1200 of your choice of yarn.

You will also need 30g of 8/0 beads for fingering weight/70g of 6/0 beads for worsted weight (Abbey says that you will need fewer for a small but it is always a good idea to get more than you need due to imperfections and dropped beads).

Blocking wires (or string and a lot of pins) are an integral part of getting the shawl to look as it should. Your yarn must block really well -- it is probably best to go for a yarn with an animal fiber content. :-) Of course you will also need basic knitting supplies, such as a needle to weave in ends and one stitch marker of one color for center marker plus 4 stitch markers of another color.

Now this is important -- Abbey wrote it in capital letters and I am duplicating that here:

DO NOT CHOOSE A SELF STRIPING YARN!!!! DO NOT CHOOSE A GRADIENT YARN!!!!!

DO choose solids, tonals, variegated yarns with short color changes.

What we are offering here is a special bead gift. Anyone who gets the pattern plus enough yarn to make this beauty will get from us the beads to add that special glory and really make this an amazing shawl.

Take a look at our Yarn sections and have a marvelous time browsing. Let your imagination be your guide.
