Oooh la la!
I love this one.
Nina Machlin Dayton has designed a most amazing shawl, dancing with beads, that is just breath taking.
She writes, about this Henry Street Shawl:
Sparkling with beads and delicate lace, this crescent shaped shawl has two sizes - a smaller shawlette to wear as a shoulder warmer or scarf, and a larger shawl to stave off evening chill.
What we offer on this web page is a kit for making the smaller size -- a shawlette at 16" deep x 46" wingspan.
The yarn is from , and this one is new to us as well. Mis-called Lace Merino, it is a definite fingering weight yarn of a marvelous quality. Each skein is a generous 460 yards (plenty for this shawlette) of 100% superwash merino. The hand is absolutely delicious.
The colorway we have for this kit is Rose Pink -- mind you it is not the same colorway that Nina made her original in but it has a lot of similarities.
A cool hue in the pink family, this is a rose color, an almost-solid of pink which bends oh-so-slightly towards violet.
You can see the yarn in the inset photo in the first picture on this page as well as below it.
For the size 6/0 beads (you will need 340 of them) we can follow Nina's lead and using a golden look. We offer here Toho's Gold Lustered Pink, a magnificent look with gold in a pink surrounding -- hard to describe. It is gorgeous and quite outstanding in all senses of the word. Or we can easily use some striking pink beads -- I am thinking of the Duracoat Galvanized Hot Pink for one though there are others. A simple Silver Lined Crystal bead would be quite striking as well. If you have a preference, let me know -- otherwise let me choose for you.
This will be a real beauty.
The other photos on this page are to show you the look of the shawl and shawlette from this pattern --use your imagination a bit to see how it will look for you with these beads and yarn.
The kit does not include knitting needles or any other accessories. The original used size 5 (US) circular needles, go for at least 24" cable. And you'll also need one of the very thin crochet hooks to add the beads.
What we offer here is a hard copy of the pattern, all eight pages printed out on heavy weight paper. Plus one skein of Ella Rae Lace Merino in Rose Pink. Plus one container with more than enough beads for this beauty.
