Chrissie of Ursa Major Knits . Talk about thinking outside the box! Oh my, these are interesting knits indeed.

La La Lu makes a most intriguing scarf, perfect for both the men or women on your gift list or for yourself.

Here is how Chrissie describes this piece: The La La Lu scarf is designed to create the illusion of a braid. It is a modular knit, yet still seamless. You will find a charted as well as a written version. You will also find ample photo tutorials which explain the joining techniques and much more.

It works wonderfully with a yarn that shows a color gradient. It will also work with three different colors which look nice together and create enough contrast. You can even go for three different color gradients. I used Mini Mochi but any other yarn in fingering weight will do. You can also use a lighter or heavier weight, but bear in mind that the scarf will either be a bit wider or smaller, unless you adjust the swatch by choosing a different needle size.

Though it was originally knit using Crystal Palace's Mini Mochi (in the colorway called Bodega Bay) it required about 6 skeins for the piece, so I decided to do some hunting for another possibility. As Chrissie recommends simply any fingering weight yarn with "a decent color gradient" that certainly opens up the field. :-)

The yarn we chose for this is Painted Desert from Knitting Fever. This is a 100% Superwash Wool with approximately 437 yards per 100g. The colorways are lovely semi-tweeded mixes of tones with very long color repeats. It is truly one of my favorites. You can see it in the inset photos on the top picture on this page and then the four photos below that. The other pictures of Chrissie's original scarf are there to show you the design.

Three skeins will be included in each kit which will give you a bit more than you need to make a very substantial and beauty scarf.

This kit offers you your choice of four colorways -- in the order they are shown top-to-bottom on this web page:

Azteca is a spectacular mix of sunset colors, a fiery mix into twilight tones.

Different Gold is a wonderful warm blend of brown golds and greens.

Shadows Falling is a perfect neutral, the colors ranging between charcoal and slate blues.

Sweet Rainbow is the colors you see after the sun has dropped below the horizon, with its blues and purples and faint suggestions of rose and teal.

Yum! Hard choices; these are all gorgeous.

Note that the kit will not automatically include the pattern. We offer three options. I know some knitters might already have this or prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Chrissie via her Ravelry web page. In that case, choose "No Pattern Needed." If you would like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that. We also can email the pattern to you via email, though I have to do it manually and usually send it right before I mail the kit (please be patient).

Just make sure that both drop-down menus are set as you would like before you check out.
