The Green Mountain Spinnery is one of the very "green-est" yarn companies around. To quote: The design of our yarns is inspired by the natural fibers themselves. Every step in the process of turning fibers into yarn is monitored carefully by our experienced team, from sorting, scouring, picking, carding and spinning to the final finishing. We turn natural fibers into yarn so beauty and distinction.

And one of my favorite of their yarns is the tried-and-true Mountain Mohair, which begins with lustrous, resilient and fine wood and adds yearling mohair from angora goats. The result is maximum sheen and softness, which continues to get softer and softer as it is worn and washed.

With 70% fine wool and 30% yearling mohair, it has a lovely halo and can be used in any worsted weight project. Each skein is 2 ounces with approximately 140 yards.

This is a marvelous yarn for adding warmth -- it makes so marvelous hats and mittens, gloves and scarves.

You can knit it at a gauge anywhere from 4 1/2 stitches to the inch (on size 7 needles or thereabouts) to 3 1/2 stitches to the inch on size 10 1/2's. The 4.5 stitches is the more recommended gauge but this is a very versatile yarn and can expand with the halo of mohair to fill spaces. It also looks great felted.

What we offer here on this web page is 5 colorways.

From the upper right hand corner and going clockwise, and again below the main picture to the right, you can see:

Raspberry (sold out)

Lupine

Wintergreen

Ice Blue

and Sky Blue.

Raspberry is a deep rich red, a touch on the blue side but we are out of stock, alas. We are bringing in another red, called Partridgeberry which you can see in the very next photo on this page (replacing Raspberry). It is close to a very true red.

The Ice Blue, to my eye, looks more like a pale green and I love it paired with the Wintergreen. The Sky Blue is a true blue while the Lupine has a touch of violet to it.

Choose from the drop-down menu the color you choose.

We also have a number of patterns from the Green Mountain Spinnery designed with this yarn in mind. Use the Search engine to find or email and we'll direct you.

Lovely!
