This one takes my breath away!  We have offered kits for it off and on through the years -- it is just too pretty not to bring back again.

The pattern is by Anne-Lise Maigaard and it is just lovely.

Newfoundland is one of Anne-Lise's Canadian Geography Series. It is a charted pattern, described simply as "Shawl with beads, nupps and leaves."

Ah! But what a beauty!

And the use of nupps in the design gives you the added option of using other beads, perhaps other sizes or shapes, to further enhance the look.

But I am getting ahead of myself....

Anne-Lise used Malabrigo Yarn Lace (100% merino with 470 yards per 50 grams) for her original one here -- she knit one in black. This kit is not made up of this yarn but of another lovely lace weight yarn. You can see what we have in the inset photos on the top picture and again below that.  The other photos (of Anne-Lise's original) are there to show you the design.

Anne-Lise writes that what is needed for the finished beauty is 752 yards (688m) though I had noticed that a few of her test knitters used significantly less yardage (socksalot who knit the salmon-pink shawl used only 562.8 yards (514.6m) for hers). I received a note from Anne-Lise on this that really makes me smile. She wrote, "Maybe would be good to add that working nupps eats a lot of yarn, and that's the reason why some test knitters used less yarn? Most of them didn't do any nupps at all, but beaded everything they could get their sparkly little hands on... "

I certainly can understand that!

Each kit will include a lace weight yarn in a deep rich black.

Findley from Juniper Moon Yarns, a 50/50 blend of merino and silk with 798 yards (730 meters) per 100 grams (3.53 ounces).  We offer that here in Midnight -- pure and simply a dark and rich black.

The original measured after blocking 20" x 63" across (50x 160cm) with an inner circle of 47" (120cm). And Anne-Lise advises that it is easy to make a larger shawl simply by adding repeats of the edge.

The Beads

The pattern as written calls for only about 60 beads.  There are lots of opportunities to add more, however, and we will be including roughly 600 of size 8/0 beads (about 15 grams) so you can play to your heart's content.

With the Midnight I love the idea of silver beads (silver lined crystal) -- to create a look of stars out in deep space.  If you would rather a different color beads, just let me know.

If you would prefer another bead color or another shape or size even, simply contact me and we will work together to create a kit that is exactly as you would like.

One thing you should be aware of: the pattern requires you to knit from charts.

We wanted the chance to show you the shawl up-close-and-personal, with lots of thanks to Anne-Lise's test knitters. So some of these photos show their pieces, The deep salmon-pink beauty that you can see in the close-up in the last picture on this page was knit by socksalot and the wonderful teal shawl by AlyssaS, both of lace weight yarn. And the green one, knit by wool4willow shows a most lovely deep and rich look. Yum!

With many thanks, ladies, for your permission. Most lovely.

Note that the kit will not automatically include the pattern.

We offer three options. I know some knitters might already have this or prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Anne-Lise via her Ravelry web page. In that case, choose "No Pattern Needed."

If you would like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that.

We also can email the pattern to you via email, though I have to do it manually and usually send it right before I mail the kit (please be patient).

Just make sure that drop-down menu is set as you would like before you check out.

This is a wonderful piece -- and I know you will enjoy the knitting and the wearing.
