This is a beauty.

The Design

Pavito is a creation of  Laura Nelkin.  Here is what she has to say about it:

Pavito Shawl is a top down, bi-colored, semi-circular lace shawl that incorporates beads, welts and double layers of fabric simulating a peacock’s plumage!

And what she doesn't mention is how much fun it is to knit.  :-)

The Yarn

We are able to offer the exact yarn that Laura used in her rosy shawl shown on this page,  though our colors are not the exactly what she selected.  You can see what we have for these kits in the inset photos on the top picture and again below that.

The kit is made up of two skeins each (2x2=4) of yarns from Shibui Knits.

Cima is a 70% alpaca/ 30% silk heavy lace weight yarn, with 328 yards per 50 grams.  The two skeins will give you 656 yards; Laura estimates that you will use about 580 yards.

Silk Cloud is a delicious 60% mohair/ 40% silk, with 330 yards/ 25g.  Your two skeins will give you about 660 yards -- Laura's estimate is that you'll need about 550 yards.

The Colorways

We have two colorways to offer here.  In each kit, the Cima and the Silk Cloud have been dyed the same.  Of course, with different fiber contents, each takes the dye just slightly differently and the result is the great look you can see in Laura's original pieces.

Imperial is (as its name implies) in the purple family.  This is a rich and glorious violet.

BTW, this has a lot of similarity to the color that Laura chose to knit hers with -- she used Raspberry which is in Imperial's color "family" but a bit redder.

Cove is a wondrous sea color.  This is a a beautiful deep teal blue-green, perfect for the mermaid in you.

The Beads

Beads are optional with this design -- your kit will include them.  For this, Laura recommends about 45 grams of size 6/0 beads.

Personally, I find that I like beads that somewhat mirror the color of the yarn they will be on.  As beads are glass and shiny, they will capture the light regardless and add that wonderful glow to your work.  Of course, you might like beads that stand out more.  The Silver Lined Crystal looks like tiny stars in the sky and gold beads add a special richness of their own.

If you have a preference, let me know.  Otherwise, let me pick out your bead color for you.

The Pattern

The kit does not automatically come with a pattern.

It would probably serve you best to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Laura via her Ravelry web page. This will also place the pattern in your Ravelry library and you will automatically get any updates.  In this case, select "No Pattern Needed" on the drop-down menu and get your pattern from Laura.

Alternatively, if you would really prefer a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that.

We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and generally do so right before I ship your kit and this won't get it in your Ravelry library).
