From Lucy Neatby-- an unusual technique for incorporating fresh air in your knitting gives a scarf with sinuous fish tail/tree root ends. Knit sideways, very easy knitting with some crochet chain finishing required.
Suits most DK/ Sport yarns, ideally those with a little loft. A little contrast yarn will be needed to finish off the holes, which can also be finished off with beaded crochet for a fantastic look.
And to see a really amazingly creative rendition of this pattern, take a look below and see Sivia Harding's work-in-progress. She writes: "Here are a couple of quick photos of the in-progress Emperor's New Scarf done with my handpainted blue-faced leicester for the scarf yarn and gold Opal for the detail yarn... and little tendril-y beaded fringes in each opening. This one is meant to be a gift, so I will have to make one for myself. Now I can see so many possibilities for using waste yarn openings... Lucy is such a genius!"
I agree -- and Sivia as well...
