Let me tell you an amazing story -- a wonderful one.
One of our customers wrote to us that beautiful as the Undulating Scarf Pattern is and as lovely as the Susan cotton from Schaefer looks with the rich dyes and glowing color, she simply dislikes working with cotton.
Well, I understand that. Not my favorite fiber either, to be honest.
I emailed Laura Nelkin, the designer of this gorgeous piece. And what did she do?
Well, she sat down with some other types of yarn from Schaefer Yarns, tried this one, tried that one and finally ended up creating a slightly different pattern to work with Heather, the new fingering weight wool/silk.
Wow.
And sent us the pattern.
Double wow.
So what did we do?
Well, we just had to order some Heather, didn't we?
Here is a colorway called Renate Tebaldi, and it is striking. It has wines and raspberries and browns both soft and dark.
The photo shows it done in the cotton called Susan, in the colorway called Empress Wu Zhao. In the upper left hand corner you will see our skeins of Renate Tebaldi. Towards the bottom of the page is a photo of the scarf done in Heather but in another colorway (Gertrude Ederle) -- we put it there so you can get a better idea of how the scarf looks made up in this wool/silk blend.
To make the scarf with Heather one uses a smaller gauge and thus needs more beads to make up a 6" by 49" scarf. So each kit now requires 100 grams of 6/0 beads (1254 beads) --- significantly more than the scarf made with Susan.
We love the Berry Lined Light Topaz ABs, the Silver Lined Root Beer, the Tr Topaz AB, and the Ruby Lined Garnet ABs -- and there are a few others as well that look amazing with this colorway, not to mention the neutrals, like the Crystal ABs which pick up all the colors. Let us choose for you unless you have a decided preference.
Each kit will have the pattern, the yarn (one skein is all it takes) and the beads. You will need to have your own knitting needles -- Laura recommends something in the neighborhood of size 6 US (4mm) or size needed to get 24 stitches and 28 rows to 4" in the pattern, blocked.
This will be a real beauty and so much fun to make.
