Oh this is marvelous!
Soft as down, this Kid Mohair/ Silk blend from Pura Bella has to be felt to be believed.
Exquisitely lustrous fingering weight Kid Mohair yarn with a silk center core, this blend is 60% Kid Mohair and 40% Silk. Silky-soft to the touch and a pleasure to work with, it knits up beautifully in all sorts of delicate designs with lace and cables. It is ideal for intricate patterns or in combination with other yarns. And (this is a direct quote from the manufacturer and I love it) -- lovely for weddings. :-)
It is labeled as a fingering weight but I would call it more of a lace weight -- each 25 gram skein has 340 yards --- you decide. I queried the manufacturer on this and here is what I was told:
"We like to refer to this yarn as a "fingering" weight because of the fiber characteristics of the Kid Mohair, which renders a halo in the finished garment. Without this halo, the garment could be knit using lace gauge needle sizes (00, 0, 1) and the handiwork would be more clearly defined. The halo ends up requiring larger needle sizes (3, 4, ...) in order to properly define the handiwork. But these are qualitative and subjective specifications."
The gauge is very variable. The label gives it as 4 1/2 stitches per inch on US 3 to 8 needles. So! Take your pick. This is a very flexible beauty.
It feels marvelous. I know I said that already, but it really bears repeating.
We just got their new colors -- deep and dark and rich Blueberry is beautiful. A slightly deeper blue -- a true blue, cool and smooth.
There are so very many designs that this would add a special something to -- a wonderful yarn to embellish or to leave alone. Take a look at Sivia's Aphrodite below and use your imagination a bit -- just one example. Or maybe her Heart-to-Heart -- wow.
Beautiful.
