Oh this one really appeals to me! There is something really special about the creations of Mindy Ross that just strike the perfect chord with me.

About the design itself:

Here is how Mindy describes Reverse Psychology:

Reverse Psychology is a technique involving the advocacy of a belief or behavior that is opposite to the one desired, with the expectation that this approach will encourage the subject of the persuasion to do what actually is desired!

Put simply??? IT’S REVERSIBLE!

This simple-to-knit piece is loaded with ethereal texture and is a delight for wearable neckwear. Because of its abstract shape, the possibilities are endless, for tying and/or draping. Designed on the bias, the detailed stitches travel in various streams of eye-catching interest.

Two stitches begin your knitting journey, and stitch count ranges from this starting point with varying amounts of increases & decreases, with 171 stitches at the most. Basic knowledge of knitting stitches include YO, K2tog, KFB, BO, with beading optional; detailed bead placement is included in the pattern instruction. This crescent abstract shape can be blocked to various length and size, depending on your blocking choice, or doesn’t have to be blocked at all, lending to drape with a bit of Bohemian Pizazz.

The Yarn

Mindy's original were knit in Wolle’s Color Changing Cotton 100gr skein, feeling that the texture and design work alongside the color changes of the cotton fiber. However she also states that other Fingering yarns are certainly acceptable, suggesting at least 470+ yardage.

We are really pleased to announce that we have just gotten in some really strikingly lovely gradient sets in Frolicking Feet from Done Roving Yarns.

The yarn is 100% domestic superwash merino.  Each set contains six 100 yards skeins (approximately 5 ounces) for a total of 600 yards of delicious colors.

One set in the colorway of your choice will be enough for knitting this lovely, and will be included in your kit.

And Mindy also writes:

There is a bonus of an EXTENDED PATTERN ENDING should you have yarn left for continuation, showing bead placement if desired. So truly this will be glorious!

These are not the yarns that Mindy used in her original pieces -- the ones we offer for this kit can be seen in the inset photos on the top picture and then again the three photos right below that. The photos of the finished shawls are there so you can see the design.

The Colorways

1. Winter Sky is a blend of colors that presents a perfect picture of a winter sky.  It starts with a blend of grays and gradually adds more and more of that stunning sky blue to the mix. I can also see a whisper of the almost-turquoise that one occasionally sees in the sky.  The last skein is simply and completely a tone-on-tone in blues.

2. Chateau Rose reminds me of an old-fashioned Victorian parlor.  It begins with cream and gradually adds soft blush and mauve, adding more pink and rose while increasing the intensities of the hues until it ends up with a deep and rich burgundy with magenta in the last skein.  Yet each keeps that sort of sepia look that you see in old photographs -- a dusty rose overall feel.  Did that make sense?

3. Blue Raspberry Orchid is a very vibrant mix of velvety colors. Ranging from a wonderful peony, it moves into fuchsia and rose and then mallard and teal, finally ending up in a marvelous and rich turquoise.

About beads:

The pattern also allows for optional beading. If you choose to bead as the pattern shows, it requires between 670 and 725 beads; size 6/0 are recommended. Each kit will include at least this many beads, in a colorway to go well with your chosen yarn color.  If you have some preferences, let me know.  Otherwise I will choose for you.

The pattern:

The pattern itself gives excellent written instruction for those with knowledge of basic knitting, with helpful ‘tips’ -- Mindy rates it as ideal for the advanced-beginner to intermediate knitter and beyond.

Note also that the kit will not automatically include the pattern. I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Mindy via her Ravelry web page. Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that. We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and generally do so right before I ship your kit).

Just make sure that both drop-down menus are set as you would like before you check out.

This is a marvelous piece -- a real pleasure to knit, to wear, to have....
