A marvelous design from Kreations by Kristi, this beaded shawl is a delight to knit and a beauty to behold.

Kristi describes the piece thus:

A Shawl for Bestemor is dedicated in memory of my Norwegian grandmother, Borghild Holaas, who was a guiding light in my life. “Bestemor” means grandmother in Norwegian. She lived to be 100 years old and passed away in 1997.

Knit top down from a delicate top edge and decreasing into a slightly rounded trapezoidal shape. A subtle knit on border adds a lovely finishing touch. Beads can be substituted for the nupps in the shawl, between 800 and 1200 of size 8/0s, depending on the size shawl you are creating. Suggestions for bead placement are included in the pattern.

The pattern calls for between 950 yards (for the medium size) and 1200 yards (for the large) of lace weight yarn. And Kristi mentions that if you are substituting beads for the nupps, then subtract 150 yards from the needed amounts -- which means that if you decide on beads, all you would need for even the large size will be 1050 yards.

Kristi used beads that blended nicely with the yarn and just catch the light in a beautiful way (they look to me to be Crystal ABs) -- if you would like suggestions for beads that stand out more, let me know.

Pretty neat, yes? A great opportunity to make a truly beautiful shawl.
