I've been asked to bring in other colors for this lovely beret. Here is a new one in a 100% merino from Prism, truly superb for next-to-skin wear.

A beauty from Amanda Clark, a perfect small project as you get ready for the holidays and for winter's winds. The Design

Here we present the Snowflake Beret.

Here is how Amanda descibes it:

This is a slouchy beret, knitted in the round and worked in one piece from the bottom up. After casting on using a long tail tubular cast on method for 1x1 rib, the brim is worked before commencing onto a beaded section to knit the first snowflake motifs. This is then followed by the crown shaping of the beret which has more beaded snowflake motifs and then an I-cord finish.

And nicely enough, the instructions for this beret are provided in both written and charted format.

The Yarn

All that is needed to make this great piece is 159 meters (173 yards) of a fingering weight yarn plus 950 size 8/0 beads.

What we have for these kits are not the same yarn nor even close colors to what Amanda used for her original one. Ours can be seen in the inset photos on the top picture and then again the two pictures right below that.

Our yarn is from Prism Yarn, called Merino Mia Layers™.

This is a yarn that is beautifully twisted, soft, easy to knit, has a lovely sheen and takes vibrant, clear colors extremely well. The Layers™ part of it refers to the dye process: it is a style of dyeing unique to Prism, Layers are complex colors that are dyed one at a time over one another. The result is non-pooling, non-striping, subtle overlays of color upon color, with both parents visible as well as every combination between the two.

Each skein has 190 yards/ 2 ounces of 100% merino wool.

The colorway we have here is called Platinum and gives a look of medium gray overall, slightly blue-ish. The Layers dyeing process combines some charcoal with some slate and some lighter gray to produce a color that has a lovely depth to it.

The Beads

Each kit here will include one skein of the yarn plus beads -- what Amanda suggests is 950 silver seed beads (size 8/0). These form the gorgeous snowflakes that make this hat so very special. Your kit will have either Silver Lined Crystal or Silver Lined Crystal AB, both high quality beads from Miyuki.

The Pattern

Note also that the kit will not automatically include the pattern. I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Amanda via her Ravelry web page. And if you want a copy of your pattern in your Ravelry library, then that is what you should do. Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that. We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and do so when your kit is ready to ship).

A great hat to wear to bring cheer and light to winter.
