Ah!
We have such a wonderful combination to offer here!
A glorious shawl, with sparkling beads done in a new lace weight alpaca/silk blend from Miss Babs.
Perfect together...
The design is by Kristi of Kreations by Kristi, an absolutely gorgeous play of stitches and beads, to create a crescent shaped lace shawl with knit-on edgings (a choice of two).
Just look at the photos here -- they will give you a far better idea of this beauty than my words ever could. Most of the photos on this page shows the shawl as created by our very own Cindersall, using Pura Bella's lace weight in a wool/silk blend. Stunning, don't you think? (The last one was knit by Kristi using a light fingering weight yarn from Wollmeise and is there to show you more of the overall look of the shawl.)
Now Cindersall felt that the 630 yards of Pura Bella's skein size would be cutting it just a bit too close for anyone wishing to make the larger size of the shawl -- she used for the large size (there are four sizes to choose from in this design) 616 yards and that is just a bit too tight. And the large size would give finished dimensions of 70" x 22" approximately -- a really wonderful size for a shawl.
So I thought of this new yarn: Alpacacita from Miss Babs, specially hand-painted for us in some wonderful solid colors, that is 70% baby alpaca and 30% cultivated silk.
Yum!
Each skein has about 800 yards to its 4.3 ounces and feels amazing.
We have some Pura Bella yarn in stock and more coming so anyone wishing to make a smaller size can do so -- but this seemed like a marvelous option and we are delighted we can offer it.
In this kit we will include enough 8/0 beads to make a truly stunning piece.
Yum again!
The colorway we offer here on this web page is very similar to the one Cindersall used. It is called Blue Teal, and so it is. A deep lake on a summer day. A mallard duck sunning himself. A rich sky as the sun sets.
Lovely! You can see it in the inset photo with the first picture here and again below it.
The beads that Cindersall used were Silver Lined Teal. We also like a few others with this -- if you have a preference, tell me. Otherwise I will pick some that will look great to go with your kit and make it truly unique.
So in each kit, you will have one skein of Alpacacita, plenty of beads, and the pattern -- you will need to provide your own knitting needles and notions and you'll also need a very thin crochet hook (or equivalent) to slide the beads into place as you are knitting. (We carry these crochet hooks on our site , if you need them.)
This is a marvelous creation -- one that will be great fun to knit and a joy to wear.
