Oh yum! And hooray! Here comes another Mystery Knit Along with The Unique Sheep yarns, our beads, and designed by Janine Le Cras.
Big smiles here...
KAL begins November 11, 2016
Please sign up no later than October 11 in order to ensure that your order will arrive before the KAL start date!
Important note: this is a Pre-Order. You select your colorway, you select your yarn, you select if you would like beads or not --- and your kit is custom-dyed for you and specially set up. This takes time. You can be assured you will get it all before the start of the KAL as long as you order before the October 11th deadline.
This KAL is inspired by The Velveteen Rabbit. Published in 1922, this story is a staple in children's nurseries to this day. The Velveteen Rabbit is about love and loyalty and the value of tradition and simplicity. A more serious story than modern children's books, the beauty of The Velveteen Rabbit is in how it takes "real" life and all of its pain and sadness and makes it both approachable and surmountable. You can enjoy an online version of the story, along with the original illustrations, here.
Designed by Janine le Cras, this crescent shaped shawl is worked in fingering weight yarn and can be knit in any of our fingering weight bases.
The pattern will be emailed to you in pieces. On the first day you'll receive the instructions for the first part of the pattern. In the following weeks you'll receive the rest of the pattern, bit by bit. But you won't see a finished picture of the shawl until the very end!
We'd love to have you join us on this knitting adventure!
Announcements and conversation will take place on the Ravelry group board so please join us there! The designer (Janine le Cras) and the dyers (Kelly Eells and Laura Lough) will be active on the Ravelry board and Facebook Group to answer questions about the pattern and cheer you on!
KAL membership can also be purchased through us here at EarthFaire. :-)
This shawl will be knit of fingering weight yarn and can be knit of any of the fingering weight yarn bases that The Unique Sheep works with.
Plus anyone who orders from us at Earth Faire will have an additional option for yarn: We can also offer you Sol or Luna. This is the yarn base some of you used for The Thirteenth Moon.
Fiber-wise the yarn is 75% superwash Merino, 20% nylon, 5% Stellina. The merino is springy and delicious, the nylon adds strength. Stellina is a non-metal fiber. You will have either a silver-toned fiber (in Luna) or a goldtone version (in Sol).
The other fingering weight yarns are all listed and data gotten on The Unique Sheep's website. Note that the price varies depending on your yarn preference. Please make sure to select the correct option for the yarn of your choice. You will see any additions to the base price in the drop-down menus under the first picture on this page.
There is a great write-up by Kelly about many of these yarns here which you might find very helpful.
Beads are optional. If you choose to add beads to your shawl, you will need approximately 800 size 6/0 beads. We offer an option with beads specially selected to "go" with your colorway as part of your kit, if you so choose.
Each kit is dyed to order (which is why it will take time) in the yarn and colorway of your choosing.
Now about colorways.
You can order through us any and all of the colorways that The Unique Sheep creates.
There are also a number which are Earth Faire exclusives which you can only get through us. Almost all are shown on these Flickr pages , though we are constantly working with Kelly to create new ones and those might be a bit late having their pictures taken. We list the Earth Faire signature colorways in the search box above.
And the photos on this page show some of the special ones as well as some of our new ones. Feel free to contact us if you would like another photo or more data or description on any of these.
If you want a colorway that you cannot find specifically listed on the Choices drop-down menu, simply select "Other (tell us!)" [it is there on the list near the bottom] and give me the data via the Comments section as you check out.
If you would like more on any of these colorways or even a photo or two, simply contact me and I will work with you.

Or! Kelly is also very willing to dye up full circles for these colorways. If you would like that, you would get twelve 25 gram skeins instead of six 50g skeins. The price would be the same. Just let us know via the Comments section as you check out. .
If you want a 6-skein set: you must do is choose the number to start with. A number of the photos on this page show circles or color strips that are labeled by number. If you want, for example, to start with 10, then your set will have the skeins noted as 10, 11, 12, 1, 2, 3.
And if you want the full circle, tell us "full circle."
