This one really makes me happy just to look at -- and the knitting is fun too!

A great new design by Chrissie of Ursa Major Knits (aka Crizzy on Ravelry), we here present some kits for her lovely Tiebreaker

The Design

Here is how Chrissie describes this shawl:

Tiebreaker is designed for two contrasting yarns in fingering weight, but you can easily use this pattern with any other yarn weight you prefer since the size is completely variable as it only depends on your preference and the amount of yarn you use.

I used Wollmeise Pure and needed two skeins of color A and one skein of color B. Some Wollmeise skeins are generously heavy, with much more yardage than what you will find on the label. If you are the lucky owner of one of those, one skein of each color will be enough for a shawlette of the size I knitted here (50” / 126cm inner circle). You will definitely be able to knit a slightly smaller one with one skein of each color.

Tiebreaker is a modular knit which doesn’t require any seaming. However you will have to knit I-cords. A lot of knitters try to avoid them. With this design I still opted for this technique as it provides a stunning embossed look and a completely reversible shawlette. So keep calm and i-cord on. ;-))

You will find ample photo tutorials on this method and other technical advice included. So even if you are new to anything required to knit this pattern, you will find all information you need. All instructions are charted and written and graphics will illustrate all the steps.

Happy Knitting

The Yarns and Colorways

We are not offering the same yarn nor colors that Chrissie used in her original.  Indeed, be aware that with these kits you will not be making a piece quite as large as she did, though we can come close.  The design is written in such a way that slightly less yarn will still yield a quite lovely and striking shawl.

The yarns we offer can be seen in the inset photo on the top picture and again below that. Each kit is set up so you will get one skein of the main color and one of the contrasting color.  (The other photos are there to show the design.)

If you would like two skeins of the main color of the kit instead of one (and thus a larger piece), please contact us first to check availability.  If we have it, we will set it up with you.

This kit uses Fino yarn from Manos. This fingering weight yarn is 70% extrafine merino/ 30% silk and has 490 yards (450m) per 100 gram skein.

We brought in two colorways with a very vivid contrast between them.  Gas Lamp is an amazing almost-solid in brilliant yellow that had a real glow to it.  This is intended as the contrast colorway.  The main color is again a rich almost-solid, this time in a blue called Damask.  These two are quite stiking together.

The Pattern

Instructions are both charted and written (line by line).

The kit will not automatically include the pattern. I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Chrissie via her Ravelry web page. In that case, set the drop-down menu to "No Pattern Needed".

Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that.

We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and generally do so right before shipping your kit).

Fun fun fun fun fun!
