Another fantastic Special Kit.

Again, the concept is simple:  A lovely shawl design kitted with great yarn, a gorgeous bead mix  plus a stunning handcrafted pin

Let me tell you about what we have put together here.  It is really special.

This is a perfect Gift item too -- whether you gift it in kit form to another knitter, or create the shawl and gift it with the pin.  A big smile-maker for sure....

The Pin

I quote here:

High-tech meets fine art in this collection of jewelry and Juaica by the Israeli born artists Nachshon and Stavit. Designing and working in Brooklyn, NY, their work brings together complementary skills from the firelds of Industrial Design and Fine Art to create this one of a kind piece.

The pin here has been chosen to look great with the yarn we offer for the kit.  It is in the form of a Heart, somewhat Art Nouveau in style, with lovely swirls and colors

When I measure the heart, the widest part is 1 5/8" and the tallest is just a hair shy of 2".

The Design

This is a lovely design by Nim Teasdale which she calls Slow Dance.

Here is how Nim described this beauty:

Slow Dance is an evolving design with a set of frisky quick steps and graceful slow steps which can be worked together in any number of ways.

A quick look through the test knits of this shawl will show a big variety in the way the two sections can be put together.

Heart shaped or angel wing shaped, it stays put on your shoulders.

Highly adaptable to yardage and yarn weight.

Much simpler than it looks, it invites the knitter to find their own rhythm and set their own pace.

Not officially beaded, but beads can be added (lots of them, if you like!)

Please note the centre line of this shawl has been redesigned since knitting my sample and is now a narrow single line of holes rather than the wider double yo with a line of knit sts down the centre.

A strikingly gorgeous shawl, don't you agree?

The Yarn and Colorway

We are not offering in these kits the same yarn or colorway that Nim used in her original piece.

Our yarns can be seen in the inset photo on the bottom right hand corner of the top picture and again below that.  The pin is resting there on the yarn and again shown closer below.

Nim's photos of her original shawls are also shown so you can get an idea of the overall design.

Nim writes that sizing is adaptable to any yardage of fingering weight yarn -- her original shown on this page was knit using 330 yards and measures 54" x 24".  You will have enough yarn to make a shawl significantly larger.

The yarn for this kit is Luxe, a lovely fingering weight yarn of 25% Tussah Silk/ 75% Superwash Merino.  The set is of six smaller skeinettes, each of 100 yards so you will have a total of 600 yards of deliciousness to knot with.

Painting the Roses seems to be a very apt colorway to offer with a heart, as the whole idea behind the name was the story of the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland.  This is a marvelously monochromatic colorway, of pinks into deep rose colors.   Quite lovely.

Beads? Of course!

Beads are totally optional here but we will be including them and leave it up to you what to use and where.  Each kit will have about 25 grams (roughly 300) of size 6/0 beads in a mix of colors.  The predominant colors in the bead mix will reflect the yarn with pinks and roses and reds.  There will also be a smattering of colors to pick up the other hues in the Heart pin.

The Pattern

Note that the shawl is fully written and charted, with pattern rows worked on the RS only.

The kit will not automatically include the pattern. Some knitters will prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Kristi via her Ravelry web page. In that case, make sure the drop-down menu is set to "No Pattern Needed." And if you want the pattern saved in your Ravelry library, this is the way to go.

Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, then the "Pattern" drop-down menu should be set to that. We also can email the pattern to you (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and usually do that right before shipping your order).

So to sum it up: This kit will include the yarn, the beads, perhaps the pattern (depending on your choice here) plus a beautiful Heart pin, to highlight the piece and sing a wonderful song to knitting.

Big smiles....
