Classics never get outdated.
And so we are delighted to again offer kits for this stunning piece.
By Anne-Lise Maigaard, this gorgeous 1001 Nights simply took my breath away!
We brought in beautiful gradiance sets in the stunning Linen/Silk lace weight yarn.
And so here we are so very pleased to present these kits.
This lovely shawl is worked in one piece from the top down and with lots of beads.
A very short garter tab is used, no provisional CO needed. It is bound off using a crochet hook (single crochet, slip stitches and chain stitches are used). A knitted picot BO alternative to this bind off is offered.
The English version of the pattern has both charts and written directions.
Anne-Lise rates this design as for medium to advanced knitters. The nupps can be left out if you would prefer. The pattern uses double nupps, and she writes that she finds them easier to work than ordinary single nupps, so do give it a try!
The Yarn and Colorways
The yarn we offer here is not the same as what Anne-Lise used in her original piece. You can see the kits we have in the inset photo on the top picture and again below that.
(The top photo was altered through the miracle of PhotoShop to give you a better idea of how our kits will knit up.)
Our yarn is called Linen/Silk and is composed of 35% Linen/ 65% Silk.
The look and feel is fantastic -- it has a lovely glow (that's the silk) and it softens amazingly as it is worked, worn, and washed (that's the linen aspect).
Each of our sets is composed of six small skeins, 220 yards/ 25g so the total per set is roughly 1,320 yards/ 150g, making it a heavy lace weight yarn.
And as the pattern calls for 722 - 1094 yards (660 - 1000 m), this gives you a substantial cushion.
This colorway is a new one for us, and one that I really really like. We named it Guinevere and it is a cool deliciousness moving from a very pale sky blue, gradually deepending until it approaches violet.
Really strikingly lovely.
This design uses lots of the smaller 8/0 beads with about 1817 of these seed beads charted for the shawl as shown.
Drop beads or dagger beads can be used for the bind off (180 dagger beads for shawl as shown).
Your kit will include both.
There will be about 50 grams (about 2,000) of the 8/0 beads. And we will also include matching or contrasting daggers or drops for the bind-off. These might be 3x10mm daggers or the larger 5x16mm ones, they might be 3.4mm drops, they might be 4x6mm teardrops, they might be the larger 4mm or 4.7mm magatamas.
If you have a color preference, let me know. Otherwise I will choose for you.
And btw, a chart by chart and repeat by repeat count of beads is included for those who wishes to change the size.
The pattern is not automatically part of the kit.
We strongly suggest getting the pattern directly via Ravelry, here on Anne-Lise's web page. In that case, set the drop-down menu to "No Pattern Needed."
If you would prefer a printed copy or a PDF via email, please select that option via the "Pattern" drop-down menu. The PDF file will be emailed right before your kit is shipped.
