Only one kit left!
Another beauty from Nim Teasdale, here we put her After Image with our new Nimbus yarn, dyed in Enchanted Garden.
Here is what Nim writes:
Afterimage is a shawl with variations, designed to be able to create many different shawls from the one pattern.
It is a hybrid of two classic rippling stitch patterns, Ostrich Plumes, and a variation of Old Shale (similar to Feather and Fan), and the knitter can slip between the alternating and straight forms of the lace as preferred. The unusual construction of the spine creates an intriguing flow of lines at the centre, and the arrowhead edging option adds an airy finish.
Lace is worked only every second right side row. Wrong side rows can be either knit or purled (or both, worked in alternation), to create smoothly flowing lace, or rippling garter waves.
For a totally different look, work the straight pattern in stripes to add drama to the garter lines. (Stripes work well with the straight pattern, but will flatten out somewhat with the offset pattern)
The pattern can be worked entirely from the written pattern, or from charts with some notes.
It uses a top down construction. Each part of the chart is repeatable, and bind off can be worked on any wrong side row, making it adaptable to any yardage.
Our kit does not use the same yarn nor the same colorway that Nim used in her original though there are similarities. You can see our kit in the inset photo on the top picture and again below that. The other photos are there to give you a good idea of the design.
The yarn is our new Nimbus, 100% British Superwash BFL yarn, a set of 6 with 144 yards/ 33g skein for a total of 864 yards. This is a very soft yarn with a very lovely drape; it takes the dyes with a bit more of a matte finish and with a wondrous drape.
Enchanted Garden was created as a circle of colors. This is a 6-skein segment running from a deep blue-purple-fuchsia-rose.
Perfect for this design!
The pattern as written contains no beads. If you would like to add some, they would add a brilliant bling that would enhance the design no end.
I am added the option of adding beads to your kit via a drop-down menu above. If you choose to get the beads, your kit will include about 35 grams of size 6/0, about 420 beads + or -.
It will be your decision where you want to put the beads.
If you have an idea of what color of beads you'd like, tell me. Otherwise I will choose for you.
The kit will not automatically include the pattern.
I know some knitters might already have this or prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Nim via her Ravelry web page. In that case, make sure the drop-down menu is set to "No Pattern Needed." This will save the pattern in your Ravelry library and ensure you get any updates right away.
If you would like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that.
We also can email the pattern to you -- just know that it is not automatic and I need to send it manually. Generally speaking I do that right before shipping the kit.
