I am absolutely thrilled to be able to offer a kit for this gorgeous shawl! A combination of a striking pattern, a delicious yarn, and glowing beads makes for a wonderful knitting project for sure for sure.
Big smiles here.
The designer, Kristina Vilimaite, describes it thusly:
While knitting the shawl you will follow the growth of lilies of the valley from underground towards the sky.
The knitting starts with just a few stitches and soon you “plant” bulbs that give life to the blooms. You may add some beads when knitting flowers to glitter as dew drops. After you knit enough of plants, the Sun starts rising and sets the lilies of the valley aglow.
The shawl is a slightly asymmetric triangle worked sideways in one piece. The pattern is designed for one skein of fingering or lace weight yarn to get petite or regular sizes and can be easily customised.
This beautiful shawl can be knit in either lace weight or fingering weight yarn.
Bear in mind that this is not the same yarn as Kristina used in her original piece. You can see the yarn we offer in the inset photos on the top picture and again below that. The other pictures are here to show you the design (© Kristina Vilimaite / Natália Hubay-Németh).
The golden shawls shown in the last 2 photos on this page were knit by Wool4Willow and used with her permission. She used a heavier yarn and I show these here simply because it shows the design so well.
The yarn we chose is (as I mentioned) from Shibui Knits and is called Lunar. This is a 60% Extra Fine Merino + 40% Mulberry Silk and each skein has 401 yds / 365 m, 1.76 oz / 50 g.
And oh my goodness gracious, this yarn feels amazing.
I quote Shibui here -- and really, if words could describe a feel, these are perfect:
A cricket sings
blossoms before dewfall
Luminous silk makes Lunar glow with an inner light...
Two skeins will be in each kit.
We have just brought in three colorways to try out, two in jeweltones and one in a delicious neutral.
1. Imperial is a gorgeous red-violet, truly a velvety color. (Sorry, sold out)
2. Blueprint is a wondrous royal blue.
3. Ash is a delicate medium grey, quite a wonderful neutral.
The design calls for 198 beads for the fingering version or 258 beads for the lace version. Each of our kits will include close to 10 grams (that's about 400 beads) in size 8/0.
Kristina used Miyuki size 8/0 for her lace weight one, of a color that looks like tiny pearls.
There are so very many colors of beads that will look superb! If you have a preference, let me know. Otherwise I will choose for you.
The instructions for this lovely shawl are both written and charted.
The kit will not automatically include the pattern.
I highly recommend getting the pattern directly from Kristina via her Ravelry web page. This will ensure that you get any future updates and also it is saved in your Ravelry library. In that case, set the Pattern drop-down menu to "No Pattern Needed."
Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, please make sure the drop-down menu is set to that. It is 13 pages.
We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and generally do that right before shipping your kit).
Just make sure that both drop-down menus are set as you would like before you check out.
