A lovely new design by Nim Teasdale, All Together is a chance to play with colors!

Interestingly, just shortly before Nim released this design, I had received from Knitting Fever a box containing 35 (! count 'em!) sets of 10 mini-skeins each for a total of 350 mini-skeins of yarn!  Each of these were solid colors, dyed in a sequences of colors (perfect for a gradient), with 44 yards/ 10g of 75% wool/ 25% nylon.  (See second photo on this page.)

Besides offering them as perfect for toes and heels I was a bit stumped on what to do with them.  They were beautiful and delcious to feel but what to kit them with..... ?

And then Nim came along. :-)

The Design

Here is how she describes the pattern:

All Together is an asymmetrical triangle shawl designed for playing with colour, contrast, and texture.

Bands of lace are linked by modular sections of floating cables over garter stripes in a choose your own adventure approach, creating a dynamic and highly customisable tapestry-like effect. Each section can flow on to any other section, or be continued to any size.

It was inspired by a gorgeous rainbow of yarn, a beautiful reminder that we all share this earth together, and that difference and diversity are qualities that strengthen us.

It is ideal for mini skein sets, blending solids/semi solids, or using up leftover scraps. Pairing a gradient and solid, or two gradients would also work brilliantly.

  • The size of the shawl is adaptable, both the texture stitch and the lace sections can be worked to any size.
  • Suits fingering to DK weight yarn in any yardage between approx 500m and 1500m.
  • The design can be worked entirely from the written pattern, or from charts with some notes.

The Yarn and Colorways

I wrote to Nim and went over with her my understanding of what she used and yardage needs. I wanted her feedback on if these would work well.

She wrote back that it would work great though we could use more or less yardage than she had in her original if we wanted to. You notice that this design is written so that it will work for quite a range of yarn weights and amounts.

So I went through these mini-skeins and put together two kits.  Each consists of 10 colors (that's 2 mini-skeins each = 20 mini-skeins or a total of 880 yards).

If you'd like more, let me know -- we can certainly add to these.  Nim used the equivalent of 12 colors (x 2) and hers measured180x75cm (70x30in) after light blocking.‚Äč Just let me know that you'd like to expand the kit and we can talk about other colors and set up your own personalized kit.

Our first kit is Rainbow colors, and includes the full ROYGBIV (red-orange-yellow-greeen-blue-indigo-violet) as well as a few colors in between. (Sorry, sold out.)

Our second is Jewel Tone colors, with black, wine, magenta, fuchsia, sea green, teal (2 shades) , cyan (ditto), and purple.

The Pattern

The kit does not automatically include the pattern, nor has its cost been factored in.  We offer three ways to get it.

Many knitters like to get theirs directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Nim via her Ravelry web pageThen you will automatically get any updates and also have a copy saved in your Rav library.  In that case, set the Pattern drop-down menu to "No Pattern Needed."

If you decide that you would prefer a printed copy we can do that.  Please make sure the drop-down menu is set to that.

We also can email the pattern to you  (please be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and generally do that right before shipping your kit).

Just make sure that drop-down menu is set as you would like before you check out.
