A most lovely shawl design, Aria by Linnea Ornstein offers a great opportunity to "play"!

Get your pattern directly from the designer on her Ravelry page here.  What we offer is yarn to knit this beauty with.

The Design

Here is what Linnea writes:

Aeria is a two-coloured shawl knit sideways from tip to tip. The leaves are shaped with short-rows, and the entire shawl is knit in garter stitch. Be warned - this shawl is highly addictive!

On the first half of the shawl, increases and decreases are done on the wrong-side rows. On each wrong-side row, it increases by 1 st at the beginning of the row (bottom end). On every second wrong-side row, it also decreases by 1 st at the end of the row (top end).

On the second half of the shawl, increases and decreases are done on the right-side rows. On each right-side row, it decreases by 1 st at the beginning of the row (bottom end). On every second right-side row, it also increases by 1 st at the end of the row (top end).

This shawl is perfect for your handspun yarn in various colours, combined with a plain white or solid colour yarn. Or perhaps a bunch of mini skeins as the contrast colour?

Yarn and Colorways

We were able to put together some lovely kits with help from Beth of The Alpaca Yarn Company.

The yarn is not the same as Linnea's original -- you can see our kit in the inset photo on the top picture on this page and again below that.

The yarn is 65% Superwash Wool, 20% Alpaca, 15% Nylon.

The mini skeins give you a total yardage of 550 yards/ 125 grams (5 skeins x 110 yards/ 25g each).  The solid skein is again 550 yards/ 125g.

The colorway I chose for the minis is called Tail Feather.  It makes me think of the colors in late winter/ very early spring,  with its greens, purple, blue and gray.

For the solid contrast color we chose White, so that all the other colors stand out well.
