A wonderful free pattern from Paola Albergamo and courtesy of Knotions, October 2017 as well, Autunno in a wonderful cowl done in brioche knitting.
The pattern is free but you must download it yourself -- here!
This one really sings to me.
Here is what Paola says about it:
Autunno (Autumn in Italian) is a multifunctional piece that can be worn as a cowl, an infinity scarf or as a vest.
And it is reversible, too! So it has multiple ways you can wear it.
Autunno is worked in a dynamic two-color brioche pattern that makes the fabric undulate, mimicking the movements of falling leaves blown by the wind. Brioche stitch worked flat is a little complex to handle at first, but has the big pro of having 3 rest rows for every “pattern” row.
This design requires attention, but the result is rewarding!
The Yarns and Colorways
Paola knit her original piece using Lana Grossa Alta Moda Cashmere Fine and Madeline Tosh DK.
We have put together kits using the same Alta Moda Cashmere Fine -- in her original colorway as well as in one other. The overall look will have similarities but also definite differences -- you will need to use your imagination here but isn't that what we as knitters do best? Anyway, you can see the yarns we offer in the inset photos on the top picture and again below that. The other photos are there to show you the design and are used with the designer's permission (© Paola Albergamo).
Both of our kits (described below) use for the main color Lana Grossa Alta Moda Cashmere Fine (80% wool, 10% cashmere, 10% Polyamid; 350 yds 320 m/50 gr), 2 skeins.
And instead of 225 yards of Madeline Tosh DK, we have two different DK yarns; descriptions are below with each kit.
MC: The colorway Paola used in the Alta Moda Cashmere Fine was their color 109 -- named Sweetheart --- and has a wondrous mix of pink and raspberry and antique rose as well as brighter bursts of amber. This is the yarn we offer for our first kit.
CC: For our contrast color, we have one skein of Ella Rae Lace Merino DK, a 100% superwash extrafine merino, with 302 yards (276m) per 100g skein.
This is colorway #207 and I find that it contains colors that go perfectly with the Cashmere Fine 109 but with all of them deeper and richer so the contrast remains. It has predominately black, rose and wine with some lovely tones in between (I see rich purple and a touch of green).
MC: Here the Cashmere Fine colorway is #110, named Lilac Laughter, a soft misty blend of lilac, pink, and grey.
I see it beautiful sunrise as seen through a cloud.
CC: The DK yarn for Kit B is Stargazer from Juniper Moon, a really amazingly delicious 70% llama/30% silk, with 218 yards per 100g. The colorway is Orion, a lovely charcoal that works beautifully with the foggy colorway of this Cashmere Fine.
Don't forget to get your pattern here -- it is free with the proviso that you must download it yourself.
