What a great pattern! This is one of Susan Pandorf's wonderful Fellowship of the Ring series. Here she offers a two-for-one pattern of felted mosaic knits for (as she puts it) good little hobbits.

This pattern includes both a very clever Bag End "mushroom bag" and a bonus pattern of fun accessories. It was originally designed for the retreat this last summer held by the lovely ladies of The Unique Sheep.

Each of the projects are knit using the mosaic style of colorwork, with the main piece being knit and then folded to form the finished object. The patterns include directions for assembly and felting as well as suggestions for playing with other colors.

Mosaic knitting is a two-color technique which looks hard, but it's not! At all.

The main bag is made with DK/ light worsted weight yarn (originally The Unique Sheep's Anna's Yarn), about 1250 yards total yardage divided into six different colors. The accessories use sport weight yarn and four contrasting colors.

Wonderful gifts or simply a fun project for yourself. And if you haven't tried mosaic knitting before, the accessory pieces are a marvelous way to try it out on a small scale first.

Highly recommended.
