The Design

Here is what Michele writes:

Add some lacy drama to your wardrobe. Make it for yourself or gift it to a lucky recipient.

The name for this cowl came about when I took the finished cowl to my knitting night group. One of my friends there said it looked like fish to her. It looks like butterflies to me. I decided to go with the Butterfly Perspective!

Worked from the bottom up in the round, the cowl is a little tricky for the first 30 rounds, then it gets into basic lace knitting. All stitches are explained in the pattern.

The Yarn and Colorways

This yarn is a new one from Skacel.  I actually had ordered it quite a few months ago but it got held up in Customs and only just arrived. And I simply couldn't wait to show it to you, especially as I love it for this pattern.

It is not, of course, the same as the yarn that Michele used in her original piece.  You can see this yarn in the inset photos on the top picture and again below that.

This is Cashmere Zauber and is a DK weight yarn with 80% Virgin Wool/ 20% Cashmere and having 153 yards per 50 gram hank.

The yarn has been dyed in very long color runs, so long that not all the colors appear in any one hank.  So it is fortunate that this cowl would require close to three hanks so you will have a set of yarns that give you a great range of colors.  We'll try our best to select for you three that blend one into the next.

It feels delicious. And looks awesome too.

We brought in two colorways to start out with:

1.  #1508 is the Schatten (Shadow) colorway that you might remember form the Gradient yarns we had brought in from Schoppel back in September. The colorway seems to range from a light grey into deeper tones, and there is one set that starts with cream and goes into grays (that is the one pictured here).

2.  #1699 is also called Fliederduft (Lilac Scented) that we have also brought in before in their Zauberball 100.  This is a delightful cool blend of blues and violets, gradually changing in a most pleasing way. (Sorry, sold out)

Beads?

No, Michele doesn't add beads to this cowl but it seems to me that the bind off might look wonderful with some beads dripping down.  Or the lace design could easily take some beads on the yarn overs to very good effect.

It would be totally up to you if you want to add any and where.  So we set up a drop-down menu above giving you the option of Yarn Only or Yarn + 6/0 Beads which will give you roughly 400 size 6/0 beads.

If you have a color preference, tell me.  Otherwise I will choose for you.
