A great scarf by Maureen Mason-Jamieson --- quite different in the look and in the knitting.

Here's how she puts it:

"A modular knit scarf that's interesting to knit, beautiful to look at, and fun to wear. Mitered units are knit in garter and reverse stockinette stitches. They taper in size to the center back where they are joined by a four-cornered mitered square. An I-cord fleur-de-lis at each end provides the finishing touch."

All you need is 175 yards of a variegated fingering weight yarn plus 90 yards in a contrast solid color.

The original used size 3 (US)/ 3mm neeldes to get a gauge of 28 stitches and 36 rows to 4" (10 cm).

Finished size is 42 inches long, with the widest module being 5 inches across.

And Maureen rates the skill level needed here as Adventurous Intermediate!
