In the summertime, I am constantly on the lookout for simpler designs, ones that I can take with me on vacation or work on when chatting with friends at a BBQ or at a kid's soccer game or the like.

Canyonlands by Nim Teasdale certainly fits the bill!

The Design

Here is what Nim writes:

Canyonlands is a deep garter triangle shawl designed to play with long colour run yarns.

The body of the shawl is worked sideways in a variation of Please Mind the Gap. Keeping the garter stitch relaxed (preferably to the point of being semi-comatose) gives this wrap a lightness and drape that make it very easy to wear...

If you’ve had a skein of lovable-but-crazy variegated yarn languishing in your stash for years that you don’t know how to make use of, this may be the pattern for you.

The Yarn and Colorways

We offer a different yarn than what Nim used in her original. You can see the yarn that is in your kit in the upper righthand corner of the top photo of this page and again below that.

We sought out a long color run that would sing of summer!

Our yarn is indeed a perfect warm-weather yarn, from Katia, their Concept Silk Degrade.  The yarn is 35% silk/ 35% cotton/ 30% viscose and has a lovely sheen as well as a delicious feel to it.

The colorway is Color #300, and runs from pink into peach into orange into aqua into dark violet.

Each pre-wound disk gives you 656 yards (600m)/ 150g.   It is classified as a DK weight.

As Nim says that this design can be used with any yarn weight and suitable for any yardage (suggesting 437 - 875 yards (400 - 800 m)), this seemed just perfect.

No, Nim didn't put beads into this pattern but we think they could look awesome, perhaps at the edging.  It would be totally up to you.

If you would like beads, we set up a special drop-down menu that will allow you to get size 6/0 beads which will work fine with this yarn, a 20g container which will give you roughly 240 beads.

Tell me if you have a preference for bead color; otherwise I will choose for you.

The Pattern

We set up this kit with yarn plus beads and have not automatically included the pattern. We offer three options for getting the pattern.

1. If you prefer to get your pattern via Nim's Ravelry page here (and thus have it saved in your Rav library) then set the drop-down menu to "No Pattern Needed."

2. Or we can print out a hard copy for you and send it along with the kit.  That option is also via the drop down menu.

3. Alternatively, I can directly email the pattern to you.  This is not automatic, however.  Usually I send the pattern when I am about to ship the pattern.

Make sure both drop-down menus are set as you would like before checking out.
