A most beautiful shawl pattern!

Becky Herrick of Sugar Tree Designs has created something lovely. Clarina Irene was named after a forward thinking newspaper editor, suffragette, and constant knitter who lived in Vermont. This shawl combines stockinette with stripes and texture -- all worked out to keep the knitting interesting!

This striped shawl is worked from the top down with two increase points creating a shape somewhere between a crescent and a half-circle. The waves are created using multiple yo’s which are dropped on the next row. The edging is knit on at the end finishing the shawl with no tightly bound off edge.

Yarn Note: Basically you want fingering weight yarn. The original was knit using Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock -- and we have the exact colorways that Becky used offered in kit form on another webpage (use our Search engine and put in "Clarina").

We also have a few other color possibilities in Shepherd Sock as well as some really wonderful Fingering weight yarns that would also look amazing in this.

The important thing to remember when picking out yarns for this design is that the yardage requirements are 428 and 432 yards for your MC and CC. Please be sure you have enough to complete the shawl. Not all skeins of sock yarn will provide enough yardage with only one skein, so double-check that you'll have plenty and all will be well.

This is really lovely -- I love the simple lines coming together in a marvelous whole.
