A marvelous combination!
A lovely beaded shawlette design by Boo Knits + a delicious merino/alpaca blend yarn from Kelbourne Woolens.
The price you see here is for enough yarn plus beads to make the smaller size shawl and just about any of the bead options that is part of the pattern (more data below). If you would like to make a larger size either get two kits or contact me to set up a special kit.
About Cloud Illusions, and quoting Bev (the amazing designer):
This cute little shawl is perfect to wrap around your neck and shoulders.
In cotton it provides a wonderful summer shawl for keeping the sun off those delicate shoulders or keeping the chill night air at bay; in silk it becomes something elegant and worthy of accompanying you to functions and formal events, yet in wool it will keep even the winter cold out!
Just a nice length Cloud Illusions will cover your back and wrap around and can be worn in many different ways. It is so much more than a scarf and yet not too deep to be difficult to wear - this really is the silver lining to any cloud!
The Yarn and Colorways
We do not offer the same yarn as what Bev used in her original shawl. You can see our yarns in the inset photo in the upper lefthand corner of the top picture on this page and again below that.
The smallest version (which is what you see in these photos) takes only around 440 yards (400 m) of a fingering or laceweight yarn. And about 325 beads.
The larger size can be achieved by ordering two of these kits.
Perennial is 50% superwash merino/ 25% suri alpaca/ 15% nylon, with 497 yards/ 100g skein.
The colorways we think will look great in this:
1. Purple : Pure and simple, a solid color in deep rich royal purple
2. Black : Black is a very dramatic color, especially striking with silver or gold beads. I recommend good lighting; the result is definitely worth it.
Bev suggests approximately 325 beads required for the small body/small lace version. For the large body/small lace you will need 425, for the small body/large lace, again you will need 425 and for the large body/large lace figure on 525 beads.
She recommends Miyuki size 5 triangles, Miyuki size 6/0 seed beads or Miyuki 4mm cubes for fingering weight yarn.
We have a number of beads we like with this yarn and will include a 35g container in each kit which will give you some extras to play around with.
If you have a preference on bead colors or on bead shapes, let us know via the "Comments" section as you check out. Otherwise we will choose for you.
(You'll have to provide the knitting needles and very thin crochet hook for adding the beads with -- we have those in our Needles and Hooks section if you need.)
The kit will not automatically include the pattern and has not been figured into the cost.
I urge knitters to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Bev via her Ravelry web page. Then you will automatically get any updates and also have a copy saved in your Rav library. In that case, set the "Pattern" drop-down menu to "No Pattern Needed."
However, if you decide that you would like a printed copy, we can do that. Please make sure the drop-down menu is set to that.
We also can email the pattern to you via email (please be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and generally do that right before shipping your kit).
Just make sure that drop-down menu is set as you would like before you check out.
