This is a stunning beaded shawl design by Anne-Lise Maigaard.
This is a lace shawl with nupps and beads in a deep triangle shape worked from the bottom up.
The bottom edge is worked with a twist, and the design includes oak leaves and the gorgeous and easy-to-work flame stitch – a very fitting design, I think, for dryads dancing in the woods.
We offer a choice of yarns, of different fiber content (and cost).
Leeana is a 51/49 blend of cultivated silk/ merino (just a bit more silk than merino). The best of both fibers, this has some of the memory/bounce from the merino with the beautiful shine that comes from silk. This is the yarn that Anne-Lise used for her original shawl. It is a bit more expensive (the additional cost is via the drop-down menu) and quite luxurious.
Interestingly the colors look almost metallic on Leeana. That's the shine of the silk, I believe, working its magic.
Kiri is a tussah silk and superwash merino fingering weight yarn. The 4-ply structure produces a smooth, round yarn with a soft but firm hand. The 20% Tussah Silk is well blended without any slubs. The silk adds a nice bit of luster without being shiny.
Each kit will consist of 7 skeinettes of the yarn of your choice dyed in the color set of your choice (more on that below). Each skeinette of Leeana has 110 yards/ 25g and each of Kiri is 108 yards/ 1 oz.
Please note: three out of four of the original shawls were knit with only 6 skeins of yarn. One test knitter needed a seventh one and two others were close to needing one. So we expanded the set to include 7 skeinettes, thus giving you extra yardage. You might not need it but we would much rather you had it.
We chose some very intriguing colorways, designed by Kelly of The Unique Sheep. These started out as an experiment in neutrals and expanded to wonderful circles of gentle tones.
Both of these seem perfect for this time of year, as winter is winding down and spring is starting to seem a possiblity. They reflect the subtle hues of life returning.
Dance of the Dryads, which the shawl is named after, is lovely circle of subtle colors. The browns have just a touch of red to them, the greys ahve a touch of lilac and in between greens are peeking out.
To my eye, it mirrors the colors of the forest, the rocks, the earth, the leaves and the lichen at this time of year.
*You can choose as your colorway skeins 6 to 12 (that includes 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12) which will give you a golden brown into olive greens into gray tones with that touch of lilac to them.
*Or you can choose as your colorway 12 to 6 (12, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6). This will give you the grays into browns with just a touch of green.
Poseidon's Ring is somewhat cooler in tone. Also very subtle, here the browns (somewhat more golden in tone) gradually blend into grey and then subtle blues.
I see the tops of bare branches against a pale winter sky.
*We are offering in this colorway skeins 3 to 9 (that will give you 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9). This starts with a brown-gray skein moving into mostly blue skeins with a suggestion of violet and ending with a blue that is slightly turquoise.
*Or you could choose 9 to 3 (includes 9, 10, 11, 12, 1, 2, and 3). This set gives you blues slightly on the aqua side moving into golden browns and ending back at gray.
What is described in the pattern for this shawl is the placing of 6/0 beads, just shy of 600 of them. And that will be included in your kit.
Interestingly each test knitter, when given a choice, opted for some lovely beads from Toho that are gold lined. Each somewhat different, we have a wonderful selection right now. This is the kind of bead we will include with your kit. If, for any reason, you would prefer a different bead just let me know.
The pattern is not automatically part of the kit.
You can get the pattern directly from Anne-Lise's Ravelry page. This is the way to go if you would like a copy in your Ravelry library. In this case, set the drop-down menu above to "No Pattern Needed."
If you would prefer a printed copy or a PDF sent to you via email, please select that option via the "Pattern" drop-down menu.
If you choose this option, be aware that the PDF file will be emailed right before your kit is shipped.
We think you will be very pleased indeed.
