What a marvelous idea! A beautiful new colorway of Zauberball, with its loooooong color runs ---one ball will make one of Mindy's great "thingies"!
This is one of the earlier "thingies" designed by Mindy Ross.
I love it.
Unique, fun, and really lovely, this piece is not a long knit but very satisfying indeed.
Our kit uses a different yarn and different colorway than what Mindy used for her originals ---ours is the new Zauberball in cotton, a great gradiently dyed yarn of delicious 100% cotton.
What we have for these kits can be seen in the inset photo on the top picture and again right below that. The other photos are used with permission and there to show you the design.
Here is how Mindy describes it:
This Flirty Little “NUMBER” doesn’t leave conversation dangling for long, if at all! Quite the eye catcher and ‘CONVERSATION’ starter! This cute little Crescent Shaped Shawl/scarf/kerchief adds dimension with any outfit...
A quick knit, using ‘Telephone Time’ or ANY time, while listening to the latest stories from friends near & far! It’s even great for TV Time.
Now as the smallest version took only 246 yards of a fingering weight yarn and the larger size took only about 300 yards, you will be able to make either size and wear with joy!
The smaller size will give you a finished piece of about 68" x 13", in a crescent shape with an off-center point. The larger version, again crescent shape, is approximately 84" x 16.5" at the off-center point.
What we offer for this kit is from Skacel, their Zauberball yarn. You can see our yarns in the inset photos on the top picture and again below that.
Zauberball now comes both in 100% cotton as well as in 100% wool. And I thought it would be great to give you a choice.
Each ball in cotton has roughly 460 yards (420m) per 100g. Each ball in wool (Zauberball 100) has about 440 yards (400m) / 100g ball.
The Zauberball Cotton: We brought in a gorgeous new colorway where the colors simply glow with echoes of summertime! This one is called Sunnyside and it is a song of lakes and clear skies, with golden sunflowers and pink peonies.
Due to differences in the dyeing process, not all colors may be found in all balls.
(Sorry, out of stock.)
The Zauberball 100: This 100% wool yarn is in a new colorway called Streiflichter, which translates to (according to Google) Grazing Lights. It again has the bright clear colors of summer -- wonderful therapy, I think, for the depths of winter --- including yellow, pink, rose, green, and blue. (It is just slightly more expensive than the cotton -- the difference is noted in the drop-down menu.)
The scarf's edges are adorned with 6/0 beads --- approximately 400-750 beads, your choice of how many to add -- and bear in mind that beadless also gives a great look.
Each of our kits will automatically include at least 400 beads.
Contact me if you want more and we'll work that out with you.
I usually choose beads to mirror at least one of the colors in the yarn. If you have something else in mind, let me know. Otherwise I will choose for you.
Mindy describes this as a project for the Intermediate Knitter, who loves a little glitz. It contains both written Instruction & a basic start-up chart for the body section. The eyelet section is both written and charted.
The beading (optional) is done using the crochet hook method, where beads are added as you get to each stitch you'd like to adorn. There is a tutorial included in the pattern. Bear in mind you will need a tool to add the beads, either a very thin crochet hook or something like our Verna-X Beadle Needle. These are not included in the kit.
Note also that the kit will not automatically include the pattern. I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Mindy via her Ravelry web page.
Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that.
We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and generally do so right before I ship your kit).
A strikingly different bit of knitting -- tremendous fun and quick to complete. A project to cherish!
