This is such an intriguing knit!

By Andree Beddoe, this Dianthus shawl incorporates some of her very unique Knitted Embroidery techniques.

Please get the pattern directly from Andree on her Ravelry page here. This kit includes yarn (and possibly beads) only for knitting it.

The Design

Here is what she writes:

Dianthus is a crescent shape shawl knitted top-down using new and innovative Knitted Embroidery techniques I am introducing as part of this design.

With Knitted Embroidery, all elements that look like embroidery are knitted along on each row/round. Also, fabric is reversible.

In addition, Dianthus has an original lace edging that combines increases and decreases in a creative way that result in a beautiful undulating bottom border. The shawl is available in 3 sizes: Small/Medium (S/M), Large/XLarge (L/XL), and 18” doll.

Andree has even created special videos to help!

Oh yes, this is quite a special design.

The Yarn and Colorways

We did not use the exact yarns that Andree used in her original piece.  You can see what we put together for this in the inset photo on the top picture and again below that.

What is need for this shawl is fingering weight yarns, three colors.  The shawl is available in 3 sizes: Small/Medium (S/M), Large/XLarge (L/XL), and 18” doll (that's the first yardage amount listed here below).

• Color A (main color): 75 (375, 650) yards
• Color B (leaf color): 50 (200, 300) yards
• Color C (flower color): 5 (40, 75) yards (200–300 yards if you choose to work shawl lace border in this color)

Our kits, as they stand, assume no lace border and the Small/ Medium size.

If you would like to add to this, in order to do the lace border or perhaps an extra amount of one of the yarns so you can expand this to the larger size, please contact us.  As long as we have stock we'd be happy to set you up with a special kit.

***Kit #1***

From Malabrigo, Mechita is a 100% merino Superwash with 420 yards/ 100g.  The colorway is Sirenas, a lovely blend of blues and greens in varying tonalities and depths.

From Shibui, Staccato is a 70% superwash merino/ 30% silk, with 191 yards/ 50g.  We have two colorways for this:

Brass is a rich goldenrod.

Cascade is a lovely medium blue.

So Kit #1 will include one skein of Sirenas, one of Brass and one of Cascade.

The 191 yards of Staccato is so close to the 200 yards needed for Color B that we feel comfortable with just the one skein.   If you would like a second skein of either color, though, for insurance, again just contact me and I'll set you up with it.

****Kit #2***

Two colorways (one skein each) in this kit will be from Sweet Georgia, the Tough Love Sock, 80% superwash merino/ 20% nyulon, with425 yards/ 100g.

One colorway is Acai, a lovely almost-solid red-violet with some slight variations of tone.

The other is Orchid, a vibrant fuchsia., again an almost-solid.

Our third colorway here is from Koigu, 100% merino wool with 175 yards/ 50g: two skeins will be part of the kit.  The colorway is #763, a speckled beauty with a pale lilac base and dots and dashes of deep eggplant, blue, wisteria, cornflower and probably a few more I missed naming.

Kit #2 will give you one skein of each of the above, assuming you like the Koigu for the flower color.

This kit is a bit more expensive as you can see from the addition on the drop-down menu.

The Beads?

No, there are no beads as part of the pattern here.  But there are quite a few places where I could see adding a few as a bit of extra glitz and glory.

If you also like that idea, we have added a drop-down menu so you can get 20 grams of 6/0 beads, to place where you personally choose.  That will give you about 240 beads, plenty to play with.  :-)

If you have a preference on color, tell me.  Otherwise I will choose for you.
