One of my absolutely favorite mitt designs -- through the years we have offered many versions of these kits.

Here is our latest for these fantabulous fingerless mitts, awash with colors,  ruffles and beads!

The pattern cost has not been included in the kit and must be gotten here on Deborah's Ravelry page.  This kit will give you  some lovely yarn and beads -- the pattern is not part of it.

The Design

The creator of this beauty is Deborah Harowitz of Sea Air Arts, and I will let her tell you about her Dragon Paws

Dragon Paws are bejeweled hand warmers with pointed ruffles resembling the graceful sweep of Dragon Wings.

Designed to use all those fabulous little leftovers of sock yarn, pick four or five yarns in colors that play well together.

Hand dyed and printed yarns add to the raggedy ruffled look that makes the Dragon Paws fun to wear for the discerning Miss of any age. Your choice of colors and beads can give you a look from girly or elegant to steampunk or goth.

You will have a cuff ruffle, two wrist ruffles and a picot trim on the fingers.

Beads are an optional embellishment for that extra touch of bling.

The Yarn and Colorways

Deborah's original pieces (shown here with her permission) were knit using a different yarn than what we put together in these kits.  You can see our kit yarn in the inset photos on the upper-right-hand section of the top picture and again below that.  The other photos are here so you can see the design itself.

As what is needed is between 400 and 450 yards of fingering weight or sport weight yarn, we had a hard time deciding what to put together for these kits.

On looking at the Project Pages, it strikes me that this design is perfect for showcasing just about any fingering weight yarn that sings to you -- I see it knits up beautifully in variegateds, in solids, in gradients, and in eveything in between.

We picked out two yarns that really are special.

1.  Our first option is MadTosh's  TML + Glitter, a 90% superwash merino + 8% acrylic + 2% stellina with 420 yards/ 100g.  The stellina is small threads of glowing metallic, very soft and quite subtle indeed, in silvery tones.

The colorway is called Gracenotes.  I'd call the background hue a soft blush withdots and dashes and splashes of other colors -- I see orange, agenta, teal, and red.

2.  From Sweet Georgia, for those who would rather a simpler overall look, we offer their Tough Love Sock yarn which is 80% superwash merino + 20% nylon with 425yards (388m) per 100g skein.

The colorway is Charlotte, a tonal blend of pinks and lilacs.  I wouldn't call this an almost-solid but it is close, with swirls and variations of tone.  Really lovely.

The Beads

Deborah suggests about 25 grams of size 6/0.  However, a number of knitters told me that they preferred more beads than that particularly if you put the beads every-other-stitch (which is one of the options in the pattern).

So our kits will include 40 grams of size 6/0 beads -- that will give you about 480 beads.

There are quite a few bead colors that would look great with this.  My inclination would be to pick one of the colors in the yarn or even a metallic to pick up the stellina.  If you have a preference, tell me.  Otherwise I will choose for you.

The Pattern

Remember:  The pattern must be gotten here on Deborah's Ravelry page.

This will ensure that you get all updates and help that evolves with the design.
