A new and beautiful beaded lace design from Anna Victoria of By the Lily Pond designs, we have put together some kits complete with beads so you can knit her Dragon Tamer Lace Shawl.
Be sure to get the pattern directly from Anna on her Ravely web page here. Our kits do not figure in the cost of the pattern and give you simply the yarn and beads to knit this with.
Please note that the pattern requires you to be able to knit from charts; there are no written descriptions.
Here is what the designer writes:
Inspired by the engraving by Anton Robert Leinweber depicting a girl with a dragon.
(see next-to-last photo on this page)
This is a top down Crescent shape shawl.
Yarn and Colorways
We do not offer the exact yarn that Anna Victoria used in her original. You can see what we offer for our kits in the inset photo on lower left-and corner of the top picture and again below that.
As the amount of yarn will depend on the yarn used and gauge (needle size), Anna recommends having between 656 - 1203 yards (600 - 1100 m). Some testers used a bit less; some testers used a bit more. Take a look at the Project Pages to get a better idea of what look you want.
We just got in a brand-new yarn from Lana Grossa that is dyed in a most intriguing way. This is their new Hand-Dyed Cool Wool Lace and each skein of 100% lace merino gives 880 yards (800m)/ 100g.
The yarn has been dyed so that you will have a long color run of one color before it transitions into the next. (The last photo on this page shows some garments knit with these yarns so you can get a better idea of how they work up.)
One skein will be in each kit. If you want more yardage, either contact us to see what we can set you up with or (easier) get two kits.
We were offered the chance to bring in a mixed bag of two skeins of each of 6 new colorways. So there are some wonderful options color-wise but decidedly limited numbers of each.
1. Diya consists of butterscotch, peach, and mint.
2. Alia has rich hues of fuchsia, lime and teal.
3. Disha is warmer colors: mustard, persimmon, and rose.
4. Kajol is more on the pastel-side with baby blue, pink, and soft sage.
5. Vidya has forest colors of sky blue, green and brown.
6. Sonam has more desert hues, with lemon, apricot and gray.
The pattern calls for 2,058 beads for the smallest version -- and as this is lace weight yarn, the beads will be size 8/0.
Though the beads are optional, we will include 70g in each kit, or roughly 2,800 beads.
If you would like two colors of beads (one 35g container of one; second 35g container of the other) that option is part of the drop-down menu labeled "Kits."
I usually go with beads that mirror to some degree one of the colors in the yarn. If you have a preference on bead color, tell me. Otherwise I will choose for you.
