Yum!

This cowl is just gorgeous.

By Aline of Skeinwalker Knits, the Eifel Oak Cowl is a beautiful piece, designed especially to evoke the best of summer outdoors.

The Design

Here is what the designer writes:

Dark blue lakes and rivers, bubbling streams and wide dams, forested mountain ranges, colorful rock formations, and a dense network of hiking paths. This is what the Eifel National Park evokes to me. Old ash, chestnut and wild cherry trees share grounds with mighty oaks and beech trees. Wildlife is teaming, but you’ll have to be quiet and patient to spot a timid deer or woodpecker.

Nature takes its time. Soothing and calm like soft moss.

The Eifel Oak cowl is a reflection of these experiences. Streams and paths navigate across the cowl, forming an organic network of textured lines and open spaces.

Come along with Eifel Oak on a woody journey and return home with a sense of accomplishment and awe.

Note that this cowl features textured lace and is actually reversible! There is patterning on all rounds, but you will find that the pattern has a rhythm and, as Aline says, is rather meditative.

Yarn and Colorways

We do not offer the same yarn or colorway that Aline used in her original.  You can see our kits in the inset photo on the top picture and again below that.

What is needed is about 326 yards (298 m) of fingering weight yarn.

In keeping with Aline's inspiration, we wanted to stay with almost-solid yarn colors that sing of the lakes and the trees.

From Manos del Uruguay, Alegria is a 75% merino superwash/ 25% nylon, with 445 yards (405m)/ 100g skein. We have two colorway choices for you:

1:  This colorway is Teal, an almost-solid with subtle variations of color all within a rich teal hue.

2:  This is a lighter almost-solid, a pale blue named Stratus.  Think of the dawn sky on a lovely summer day.

Beads?

No, Aline didn't chart beads onto this pattern.  So you would have to decide for yourself where you best like them. They could easily be added to the cast on or to the bind off, or indeed to any or all of the yarn overs in the design itself.

Your choice!

There is a drop-down menu labeled "Kit" and there you can indicate if you'd like the yarn only or if you'd like the yarn plus about 20g of size 6/0 beads (that would give you approximately 240 beads).

If you have a preference on bead color, let me know.  Otherwise I will choose for you.
