A lovely pattern from Jackie E-S of HeartStrings Fiber Arts that is extremely versatile and adaptable.

This shawl is knit in one of those lovely laces based on the Shetland feather and fan stitch. There is so much movement and interest in the pattern that it may look more difficult to do than it really is. Starting at the lower point of the shawl and increasing to as wide as you want, it becomes a lovely fan-shaped neck scarf or shoulder wrap with scalloped points at the upper edge.

There is a lovely photo of the design made up into a neck scarf below -- the second photo there -- with more detail when you click on it.

The third photograph below shows the shawl worn as a rolled collar cape. If you click on that, you'll see the back.

Jackie suggests that if using lace-weight or very fine yarn, 200 yards will yield a neck-scarf size of 32" measured across the widest point, 600 yds will make a smaller shoulder wrap (54") and 1000 yards a larger wrap (72").

Now, as this is a shawl, generally speaking, gauge is not as vital as for other garments, especially as you are basically knitting to "as wide as you want." Take a look at any of our laceweight yarns for some spectacular possibilities.

And this pattern easily adjusts to other weights of yarn with corresponding adjustment in needle size and yardage.

Which means there are no limits on your creativity!
