Oh my.

This is stunning.

Here is a real beauty from Abbey Phelps of Blackberry Knits!

The Design

Here is what Abbey writes:

"His enemy halted again, facing him, and the shadow about it reached out like two vast wings. It raised the whip, and the thongs whined and cracked. Fire came from its nostrils" J.R.R Tolkien-The Fellowship of the Ring

Named Ennyn, this shawl is a large (80" wide x 40" deep) and delicious delight.

Yarn and Colorway

The yarn originally was one 6 skein 1200 yard set of Luxe from The Unique Sheep. As this yarn is no longer available, the new yarn for this kit is Kiri, a 80% superwash merino/ 20% silk dyed in the same manner.

The colorway you see here was created by Abbey and Kelly especially for this piece, and named Shadow Fire.

Abbey writes: Tolkien describes the Balrog as wreathed in shadow and flame, fire and darkness.

So this is absolutely perfect.

This is a glorious blend of hues ranging from orange into red-orange into red into fuchsia into violet into royal purple into deep dark almost-black.

Breathtaking!

All of the photos on this page showing the finished shawl were knit using Shadow Fire.

Beads

The shawl requires about 1,400 size 6/0 beads (!) --- that's a lot -- plus 11 drop beads. Abbey suggests, "Select beads that match your starting color and contrast your ending color."

The ones we (Abbey and I) decided were perfect with Shadow Fire are the Silver Lined Dark Smoky Amethyst.

Yum!

Tell me if you have another idea for a bead color.  Otherwise we will go with that.

The Pattern

Note also that the kit will not automatically include the pattern nor has the cost been added to the base cost of the kit.

I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Abbey via her Ravelry web page.

Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that.

We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you so it might take a bit of time for me to get to it). Just make sure that drop-down menu is set as you would like before you check out.

Such a strikingly beautiful shawl! I am in awe!
