Only one kit left!

We have re-stocked one of the other colorways we had originally offered for this shawl.

It sold out super-fast at the time.  Kathy Barrios shared her photo with me of her shawl and I I realized that I really had to bring these back.

These kits were inspired by the wonderful version knit by summbienchensumm (that's her Ravelry name, of course -- "real" name Sabine).  She used Debbie Bliss' Luxury Sock Yarn in the New Orleans colorway + Black as the solid contrast.  We sold out of that combination of colors, alas.

However, we share her photos, with her permission and help.

You can read her project notes here

The Design

Here is how Nim describes Espaliered

Espaliered is a textured, asymmetric triangle. The body of the shawl is worked sideways, and alternates between bands of lace and sections of striped garter with slip stitch lines. This creates an intriguing, textured effect reminiscent of branches trained to grow across a garden wall.

Ideal for showing off two or more complementary colours, or a solid paired with a slow colour change yarn.

Suitable for any yardage of fingering to Aran weight by adjusting needle size to your preferred gauge.

Pattern can be worked entirely from written instructions, or from charts with notes.

The Yarn and Colorways

Now what's important is that one line from Nim: one could use a solid paired with a slow color change yarn.

Debbie Bliss Rialto Luxury Sock is a slow-color-change yarn with truly amazing colors.  It is a plied 75% superwash wool/ 25% nylon blend with 437 yards (400m) per 100g ball.  As Sabina wrote to me that she used 76g in her original shawl, all that is needed is one ball

The Luxury Sock colorway here is called Soundwave.  This is a beautiful blend of turquoise and blue and navy with some ecru and lilac and greys in the mix as well.

The solid yarn here is Rialto 4ply, also from Debbie Bliss.  There are 198 yards (181 meters) per 50g ball and it is 100% extrafine merino wool superwash.

For the solid we have Rialto 4 ply in a medium grey with a touch of mauve to it that is called Silver

Now, originally we followed Sabine's lead and provided three balls of the solid color for this kit.  She used that much as she knit one of the lace sections with her Luxury Sock colorway.  Kathy, on the other hand, decided to do all the lace sections in the Silver and ended up needing a fourth ball.

Please note that these kits will contain 3 solid Silver balls + one Soundwave skeins so you can duplicate Sabrine's look.  If you would prefer to get a fourth ball of Silver to allow for all the lace sections in that solid colorway, contact me.  If we have it in stock I'll be glad to work it out with you.

The top photo on this page was taken by Kathy and used with her permission.  The last 2 photos show of Sabine's shawl; the third on this page is Nim's original and is there to show you the basic design.

The Pattern

The pattern is not automatically part of the kit.

You can purchase the pattern directly from Nim on her Ravelry page here. This will ensure your pattern is saved in your Ravelry library and that you will get any updates as well. In this case, set the drop-down menu above to "No Pattern Needed."

Or you might ask us to print it out for you and include it with your yarn -- in that case, set the drop-down menu to Printed Copy.

Alternatively I can email you the pattern; it won't be saved in your Ravelry library but you will have it and can save it where you choose.  For this, choose PDF File on the drop-down "Pattern" menu. Just bear in mind that it is not automatic -- I have to send it and usually do that right before shipping the kit.
