A lovely shawl, Falling Leaf by Nim Teasdale, as decribed by the designer:

Fallingleaf is the second design from the Leaf Cycle collection, a set of 4 crescent shaped shawls.

Inspired by the gorgeous flair of Autumn as she decks herself in her finest for a last hurrah before the bleak winter. It was designed with decadent silk in mind, but can easily adapt to a variety of yarn weights and fibres.

The pattern offers several variables to play with:

Start the lace when you like - as an all over pattern, or after an adjustable sized plain section in stockinette or garter.

Repeat the leaf pattern as many times as you like.

The edging is also indefinitely repeatable, and can be extended to make use of all that lovely yarn.

This design also has the option of adding some glorious beading.

About the Yarn

Nim's pattern leaves a lot up to the aesthetic wishes of the knitter and her suggested yardage amounts for this pattern is anywhere from 200 yards to 500 yards, in either lace weight or fingering weight yarn.

The original shawl in the photo used 340 yards (310.9m) to knit in a light fingering weight.

About the Beads

The sample that Nim knit (and that we show on this page) didn't use beads.

The pattern does, however, give instructions and directions for the placing of leaves, Nim suggesting that they be placed near the tips of the leaves. If you'd like to see the look, I suggest you take a peek at some of the other shawls on the Project Page here.

The number of beads required will depend on the size of the shawl. I find that with lighter lace weight yarn I prefer the smaller 8/0 beads; with fingering weight the 6/0s look great.
