And here is yet another version of this lovely necklace. We recently put together what we refer to as our Floating Gemstone Necklace II and here is another version, very similar indeed but with intriguing differences.
This set uses beads of Brown Fired Agate, a more interesting semi-precious stone with cracklings of browns and whites. There are two sizes of this stone, both round, one 10mm and the other a larger 16mm one.
Complementing these are some 6mm Smoky Quartz, cubes with the hole drilled from corner-tocorner so they lie like diamonds on their points.
And just like in Version II, we are including some of the small mood beads, though I only used two in the sample piece I show here. These are about 4mm bicones. In their coldest color they look very similar to the Smoky Quartz but body heat warms them to blues and greens.
After the stones are knit, the wire allows for a variety of amorphous shapes, depending on what appeals to you.
Each kit will include ten to fifteen larger beads, plus an equivalent number of mood beads. You will also get a small spool of Flex-rite 49, a very flexible wire which is fairly easy to knit with.
Each kit also includes your choice of an antique copper (dark brown) or gold tone chain to thread through the wire, allowing the whole to become a lovely floating piece around the neck. This chain runs from 16" to 18", as there is an extra 2" added at the end to allow you to choose your length.
All this takes is a very simple few rows of beaded knitting. It is a short and sweet knitting project. The one you see in my piece is the dark brown (antique copper) one -- I did photograph the gold one around the center piece so you could get an idea of what it would look like (last photos on this page).
Your wire will "go" well with whichever chain you choose -- we will include in your kit either a gold tone spool of wire or dark copper tone.
For knitting needles I used some old metal needles I had around, size 2 US, and had no difficulty knitting the wire.
Note also that the kit will not automatically include the pattern. Some of you already have the pattern as you got it with the earlier Gemstone Necklaces and most likely don't need it again. In that case, set the drop-down menu to "No Pattern Needed." Or if you would like a printed copy, then the "Pattern" drop-down menu should be set to that. We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and generally do that right before shipping the kit).
Very quick project; fun too and quite lovely.
