Sound the trumpets!

Tah dah!

This is a great design by Mindy Ross!

Here is how she describes Fringe-Abilities:

****

MAGICAL!!!

That is how I would describe this new “thingie”! It is a Written-Only pattern. This design is long & narrow, knit from side to side. Beading is optional. And so is the fringe. HOWEVER…this is one of those patterns that the fringe is addicting and ‘I can’t wait to knit the next one’! This becomes SO addictive; the “possibilities” are amazing!

(And did I say it’s addictive?) ...

Then come the possibilities for whatever you’d like. Scraps in your stash, work perfectly as a non-traditional idea for color, stripes, beads, length.

If you knit the pattern as written, there are…114 knitted fringes. There are portions for adapting this into a longer piece, (or shorter piece) whichever you desire. Please remember, yarn yardage would vary, depending on your variation. Bead amounts would vary as well.

Average length is 88-90 inches by 14-15 inches wide, not including fringe length, which averages 2.5 inches to 3 inches.

****

And Mindy recommends that you view the ‘test’ pieces, to see the variety and SOME of the possibilities for “Fringe-Abilities”.

The Yarn

We are not offering for these kits the same yarn as Mindy used. Ours can be seen in the second, third, and fourth photo on this page.

Mindy's "thingies" are shown in the other photos so you can get an idea of the design and picture how it will look.

What the pattern calls for is light fingering or fingering weight, between 500-700 yards

We are offering a brand-new yarn from Gedifra called Lana Mia.  This is a merino sock wool, with 80% virgin wool superwash/ 20% nylon.  Each pre-wound ball has 429 yards (390m)/ 100g.

This is a wonderful yarn for shawls and scarves.  It feels great next to the skin and has a wonderfully bright look to it.

The colors have long-ish color runs, not terribly long but just long enough to create sections of colors and leave you intrigued.  It is a plied yarn and the plies each have their own long color run, creating a lovely tweed-ish look.

1. Denim is what it sounds like, blues of varying depths plied with a cream yarn that has a tinge of blue to it.  The amount of light in each section varies, with some having all the lighter color and most mixed.

2. Grass is again aptly named, except that the greens are closer to teal to my eyes.  Definitely on the cool side of green, again you have sections of varying depths, plied with a pale green so sometimes it is tweeded and sometimes all pale.

3.  Grey is a marvelously sophisticated look, with black and charcoal and pale gray plied in the manner described above.

Each kit will include two balls of the color you choose to give you well more yarn than you need.

The Beads

Mindy suggests that if you want to add beads that you plan on between 350-500+ (depending on how you decide to do it).

She used 5/0 triangles.

We might give you those or perhaps 6/0 round beads --- it depends on the color matches we find.

I personally like it when the bead mirrors one of the colors of the yarn and honestly there are a lot (a lot!)more colors possible in 6/0s than in the 5/0 triangles.  If you have a definite preference, tell me. Otherwise I'll choose for you.

The Pattern

Note also that the kit will not automatically include the pattern.

I know some knitters prefer to get it directly as a PDF file of the pattern from Mindy via her Ravelry web page. In that case, make sure the drop-down menu is set to "No Pattern Needed." And if you want the pattern saved in your Ravelry library, this is the way to go.

Alternatively, if you would like a printed copy, then the "Pattern" drop-down menu should be set to that (it is a very comprehensive 13 pages, btw).

We also can email the pattern to you via email (just be aware that it is not automatic; I have to manually send it to you and usually do that right before shipping your order).
