You can now choose the emailed PDF version of the pattern or the hard copy printed out and mailed -- it is your choice.
Just know that sending the pdf is not automatic; I have to manually send the emails and usually do so when working on sending out kits (so it might be a short wait).
A really lovely piece!
I will let Tori Gurbisz, the wondrous designer, tell you about the shawl in her own words:
A crescent shaped shawlette named for Galatea, a sea nymph whose name means “she who is milk-white.” The lace and stockinette stripes on the shawl are like waves on the shore. This shawl is knit in a lovely silk/cashmere blend that will float over your shoulders like sea foam.
This shawl is worked from the top down. It begins with a garter stitch tab. The main body of the shawl is worked in alternating stockinette and lace stripes, using two colors.
Note that this pattern includes both written and charted instructions, which is great.
All that is required is a lace weight yarn in two colorways, that sing to each other. The original one that is pictured here was knit with Sweet Fiber Yarns Silk Cashmere Lace, a light fingering weight, 55% silk, 45% cashmere, with 400 yards/50 grams, in the neutral colors of Stone and Snow Drift. Only one skein of each was needed to make the shawl as you see it pictured here.
I recommend that you look at the Projects pages on Ravelry for this design, so you can get more of an idea of the ranges you can go.
I love the silk + cashmere blends --- we do carry some and they are delicious. I also noticed quite a few lovely shawls made with lighter lace weight yarn and also a few made with heavier fingering weight and even sport weight yarns. Tori does say: "The easiest way to increase the size of this shawl is by using a heavier yarn and larger needles." So that expands the possibilities tremendously. (Of course if you change the weight of the yarn, you should be prepared with extra yardage. )
What we offer on this webpage is a hard copy of the pattern. A marvelous jumping-off point to a fun knitting adventure.
