We are re-opening this web page for Pre-Orders of this most beautiful shawl. Just know that there will be a wait of about 4 to 6 weeks for the yarn to be dyed specially for your order.
This is a beautiful design by Mindy Ross + a stunning colorway by The Unique Sheep!
So understand that there will be a time lag between ordering and your kit being ready for you. Each set of yarn is individually dyed to order and that takes time. Those ordered now will likely be ready to ship in roughly one month, possibly sooner if all goes as we plan.
Your account will be charged now; we have no way to save your data (security reasons). We want to be sure you are aware of this.
This is a stunning piece, originally created by Mindy for our Earth Faire Club offering back in September, 2015. There was such demand for it at the time, that we again opened it up to pre-orders in November. And again and again and again.
We have a neat sort-of-KAL going on at the Earth Faire Ravelry forum. Do drop by and join us!
This is what Mindy refers to as a "thingie" --- an unusual piece that is quite unique indeed. Choose your own colorway and make this very much your own creation -- you certainly won't see yourself coming and going at the supermarket, that's for sure.
Here is how Mindy describes this piece:
As Summer leans toward Autumn, and the greenery of the meadows, mountains and valleys, turn into hues of rusts and reds, we tend to reflect. The days shorten and evenings lengthen. We take on the 'gathering', like the animals of the woodlands.
We freshen our garden beds, making them ready for the cold months ahead. We rake and clean the remnants of leaves, pine cones, grasses, and lush foliage, that has given up its summer beauty.
And nothing could be eloquent than to share in the harvest with knitting "GATHERING AUTUMN'S SPLENDOR". This biased scarf/"thingie" is simple in design, the amazing depth of color changes in the yarn add incredible detailed texture, with optional beading for some glitter.
What a lovely time of year, as one season gives way to another.
We can cherish the good times, with the lovely brilliant colors of Fall. The array of color changes in the yarn, lends to delight and is a spectrum rarely seen except by the human eye.
The scarf/'thingie' is a long drape and flow of colors, just like the mountains and valleys. Each day paints new scenery and knitting this beauty adds to that color palette. As outdoor activities wind down, you'll have abundant beauty all around, to keep warm. A cup of cider or hot cocoa only adds to the ambiance.
Stay warm my friends.
This is really special.
Mindy wrote this pattern with three adaptable ending sections, depending on your yarn yardage, and of course needle size used.
Yardage ranges from 590 yds (540 meters), 640 yds. (585 meters) 700 yards (641 meters).
So we have decided to expand each kit to include seven small skeins to make up the whole, 700 yards total --- you will have plenty of yarn to make the size of your choice.
Originally dyed in Verve, a wonderful 100% superwash merino fingering weight yarn that takes dye colors beautifully.
We are offering new colorways developed by Kelly and based on the circle you see in the second photo on this page. We named this circle Realm of the Faeries as it has far more than the usual autumnal colors. It is a gloriously rich circle of colors, deep and vibrant -- truly magical. We wanted to find a name that reflects all the possibilities of a glorious spectral array of color. So perhaps picture tiny pixies and faeries gathering up autumn's splendor, to knit into fine vestments ....
To select the colorway you'd like to knit your shawl in, look at the circle and try to think of it as a clock. Mindy knit hers in 1:00 to 7:00 and her test knitter used 7:00 to 12:00--- your kit will actually include one extra skein as we want you to be able to make the largest size possible if you so choose.
And here is one of the best parts! You can chose any consecutive seven colors for your kit -- you can truly make this your own creation!
So start anywhere you wish and just tell us --- use the drop-down menu labeled "Color". The number you pick will be your first color choice, going clockwise -- in other words, for examaple, if you choose "Eight O'Clock" you'll get a set made up of 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 1 and 2.
On the other hand, if you choose "Two O'Clock" as your starting point, you will get the other half of the circle: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
Make sense? If you would like any further clarification, just ask.
The shawl uses 6/0 beads: 700 for the Shortest version/760 for the Medium version/820 for the Longer Version. Your kit will include enough beads for the largest version.
Mindy's shawl used Silver Lined Dark Topaz AB beads which stand out on the multi-colors but still blend into the whole (I hope that made sense) --- Lorna, who did one of the test-knits, decided to omit the beads completely. Her piece is also gorgeous. So this is very much a personal choice.
I generally like to choose a bead that mirrors one of the colors in your set. If you have a definite idea for the color of the bead you'd like, let me know. Otherwise let me choose for you.
The beads are added via a thin Crochet Hook, Fleegle Beader or similar tool of your choice for adding your beads as you come to them.
P.S. If you decide you'd prefer to knit this without any beads, let me know and I will refund that portion of the kit ($10) and send you the yarn alone.
First of all, we just wanted to mention that the pattern is written out only, no charts.
I know some knitters prefer to get the pattern directly from Mindy via her Ravelry web page. This will give you a copy in your Ravelry library. In this case, set the drop-down menu above to "No Pattern Needed."
If you would prefer a printed copy or a PDF via email, please select that option via the "Pattern" drop-down menu. The PDF file will be emailed right before your kit is shipped.
This is a wondrous fun piece!
