You can now choose the emailed PDF version of the pattern or the hard copy printed out and mailed -- it is your choice.

Just know that sending the pdf is not automatic; I have to manually send the emails and usually do so when working on sending out kits (so it might be a short wait).

Catie has created a Hope Scarf and a Hope Shawlette as a remembrance of being a cancer survivor and a tribute to others who have fought the fight.

Here is what she writes:

"October 2010 marks my ten-year survival from breast cancer. It was by far the biggest challenge of my life for me and the family members and friends who supported me through my ordeal. I celebrate the fact that it’s far, far, behind me.

"But there are others who have not been so lucky. I have lost friends and relatives to this dreadful disease.

"My dream is that in the future others will not have to go through what so many of us have. So I’m making a contribution.

"I’ve created this delightfully ruffled design. Knit it for yourself. Knit it for a friend. Knit it for someone who has supported you during a difficult time. Knit it for someone who is having a hard time.

"For every copy of this pattern that is purchased between now and November 30, 2010, I’ll contribute a portion of my proceeds to the fight against breast cancer.

"Let’s try to eradicate this dreadful disease during our lifetime.

"Let’s give Hope to others!"

Catie created two separate patterns here called Hope. One is a scarf and one is a shawlette. (For both she chose a yarn that has some pink to it.)

The Hope Scarf finishes up at 66" long and 4 1/2" wide. This rectangular scarf is knit back and forth lengthwise. Garter stitch alternates with lace and is trimmed with a radiant ruffle!

For the scarf pattern, you will need US 8 (5mm) Circular Knitting Needle, at least 36" long, and Sport Weight Yarn: 300 yards, for a gauge of 3 stitches = 1 inch in garter stitch knit very loosely (note that gauge is not crucial to the success of this project but it may effect the yardage required).

The semi-circular shape of the Hope Shawlette is also knit back and forth but this time in a curve, increasing stitches as you go (detailed instructions are part of the pattern). Garter stitch alternates with lace and is finished with a radiant ruffle. The finished size for this one is approximately 40" diameter, 20" deep

For this shawlette, figure on 450 yards of sport weight yarn (the same gauge and needles apply as for the scarf).
