These are back in stock!
And this necklace would be marvelous to pair with our Autumn's Glory Bracelet.
There are some subtle differences in these most recent kits, as I continue to find beads that sing to me. I describe the current kit below.
There is a most striking tree here in the northeastern part of the US, called commonly the Japanese Maple. These have beautiful red feathery leaves, most brilliant in Autumn though most have at least tinges of red through the rest of the seasons.
This necklace is a song to these lovely trees. I found the electroplated Japanese Maple and simply had to put together something to showcase it.
The necklace base is two spools of Silk Serica, each with 10 meters per spool (2x10 meter = 20M total), so you will be able to knit a striking piece. The color is a red with faint coppery tones, perfect for the maple leaves.
The beads are:
1. Hex Cut 8/0 beads in either Gold Lustered African Sunset or Olympic Bronze both of which catch the light most beautifully. These are very close colors; the Olympic Bronze has the faintest whisper of violet to it. Or we might mix the two in your set, to add a great depth to the overall look
2. Silver Lined Dark Topaz were the long 4x7mm Magatamas that the original necklace had. These are fat fringe-type beads with glowing dark gold and red highlights. I also like a new color in Burgundy Gold Luster as well -- it picks up the subtle wine colors in the leaf -- and might use those in your kit or even perhaps a mix of the two. Or even a Dark Topaz Rainbow Gold Luster, a lighter tone with subtle wine and gold and green highlights, adding its own special glow. I can see any or all of these adding a wonderful look.
If you have a preference, let me know. Otherwise, I'd be delighted to choose for you and help you make your piece quite unique unto itself.
3. Hyacinth-Bronze Vega, with subtle nuances of red and copper, glowing slightly differently in each type of light were the 3x10mm daggers we originally used for this necklace. It is likely that these are what you will find in your kit. We also like the Iris Copper for this.
If you would prefer, though, we can add the same mix of daggers that are part of the Autumn's Glory Bracelet, so that the two are even more obviously a set. Just let me know.
All of these are coppery in tone, with differences that serve to accent depth and richness.
What we have as the center piece is a real Japanese Maple Leaf, electroplated in copper. Absolutely stunning!
It rests on a copper plated pewter "twig". The photos you see here have it simply slid onto this connector piece.
There will be enough thread and beads to make about 32" of necklace. You will need to make two 16" ropes for each side of the focal piece and connect them with a clasp (included in kit).
The original clasp was a simple copper toggle. We also now have some magnetic copper clasps as well as a few hook-and-eye. Any would work beautifully for the necklace. Again, if you have a preference, tell me; otherwise I'll pick the clasp for you.
The kit consists of everything you will need except the knitting needles -- we used size 0 (2mm).
Note that the kit will not automatically include the pattern. We offer three options. I know some knitters might already have made our other necklaces that used leaves as a focal point -- our Frosted Leaf and our Golden Birch were very similar indeed. If you feel you do not need another pattern, simply choose "No Pattern Needed." If you would like a printed copy, please make sure the "Pattern" drop-down menu is set to that. We also can email the pattern to you via email, though I have to do it manually and usually send it right before I mail the kit (please be patient). Just make sure that drop-down menu is set as you would like before you check out. The pattern instructs you on how to thread the beads onto the silk so as to make this rope necklace.
