Sometimes colorways just come together and sing! The ones we found and put into kits here are truly songs of Summertime!
Nim Teasdale has done it again. With Kaleidos she has created a stunning beaded beauty, that allows for plentiful personal input so that this finished shawl will truly be your own creation.
The best way to get this pattern is via Nim's Raverly page. This puts a copy in your Ravelry library and ensures you get any updates right away.
This web page is for the yarn and beads with which to knot this gorgeous shawl.
Here is what she writes:
Kaleidos is an elegant star shaped shawl. Worked from the nape in radiating wedges, it has lace panel inserts that form kaleidoscopic patterns at the increase and decrease lines within the star shape.
Delicate eyelet rows can be worked into the star shape whenever you like (every other RS row), and the lace can be extended to any size you like.
The Yarn and Colorways
Note that our kits not the same yarn nor colors as what Nim used in her original; you can see what we have in the inset photos on the top picture and again right below that. The other photos (included here with permission) are here to show the overall design and allow you to use your imagination.
All that is needed to make this shawl is two contrasting solids, or a solid and a variegated or gradient yarn. And only one colour is worked at a time.
Nim's original shawl (shown on this page) used a total of 650 yards (600m), 325 yards of each of her colors). She recommends for this shawl anywhere between 437 - 1094 yards (400 - 1000 m).
It is adaptable to any yarn wieght from lace to DK -- our kits are fingering weight.
The almost-solid yarn is from Manos del Uruguay and is called Alergria. It is a 75% wool/ 25% nylon with 445 yards/ 100g skein. The colorway is called (aptly enough) Popsicle and is a real bubble-gum pink.
Our variegated skein is from Mountain Colors, a new one called SilkDance, 75% wool/ 25% silk with 430 yards per skein. The colorway is Limeberry, a speckled beauty with splashes of the same bubblegum pink, orange sherbert, and lime sorbet on a cream background.
How's that for a perfect summer combo? :-)
Beads are optional but will be included in your kit. This will add a hint of sparkle to the lace panels.
Nim's shawl used about 250 beads, size 6/0. There are many options to this pattern so your number of beads might vary. Here is what Nim wrote when I queried her:
Bead numbers could vary wildly with this one depending on how much lace is used compared to body section, by mine used about 250 beads, where roughly half the yardage was lace.
So what we are going to do is include one 25g container of beads in each kit -- that will give you about 300 beads.
If you have a preference on bead color, let me know. Otherwise I will choose for you.
The pattern can be worked from written instructions or from charts with some notes.
We also want to be sure you realize that this kit does not automatically include the pattern. The kit is for the yarn plus beads, with a few options for getting the pattern.
We recommend that the best way to get this pattern is via Nim's Raverly page. This puts a copy in your Ravelry library and ensures you get any updates right away.
However, should that not work for you for any reason, I can print out a hard copy for you or alternatively, I can email it directly. Just contact us and we will set that up for you.
