Nim Teasdale has done it again.  With Kaleidos she has created a stunning beaded beauty, that allows for plentiful personal input so that this finished shawl will truly be your own creation.

The Design

 Here is what she writes:

Kaleidos is an elegant star shaped shawl. Worked from the nape in radiating wedges, it has lace panel inserts that form kaleidoscopic patterns at the increase and decrease lines within the star shape.

Delicate eyelet rows can be worked into the star shape whenever you like (every other RS row), and the lace can be extended to any size you like.

All that is needed to make this shawl is two contrasting solids, or a solid and a variegated or gradient yarn.  And only one colour is worked at a time.

Nim's original shawl (shown on this page) used a total of 650 yards (600m), 325 yards of each of her colors).  She recommends for this shawl anywhere between 437 - 1094 yards (400 - 1000 m).

It is adaptable to any yarn wieght from lace to DK -- our kits are fingering weight.

Beads

Beads are optional.

Nim's shawl used about 250 beads, size 6/0.  Thee are many options to this pattern so your number of beads might vary.  Here is what Nim wrote when I queried her:

Bead numbers could vary wildly with this one depending on how much lace is used compared to body section, by mine used about 250 beads, where roughly half the yardage was lace.
