A beautiful design by Dee O'Keefe Designs, we have put together some kits so you can knit Kassiani.

Please get your pattern directly from Dee on her Ravelry page here.  We offer yarn (and beads perhaps) via this web page.

The Design

Here is what Dee writes:

Kassiani is a top-down, half pi shawl which I designed as a relaxing and rhythmic knit, great for experienced lace knitters to enjoy as social or TV knitting or for newer lace knitters who are ready to tackle a full-sized shawl.

Knitting Kassiani is like working a sampler of harmonious and fun-to-knit lace patterns from around the world—diagonal Madeira lace from Spain, Shetland cat’s paw eyelets, Estonian diamonds and Italian mesh lace—all of which flow into a dramatic scalloped edge.

Yarn and Colorway

We did not bring in the exact yarn that Dee used in her original shawl.  Dee writes that for a shawl worked at the pattern size, the average amount of yarn used during test knitting was between 690 to 750 yards of fingering weight on US #5 (3.75 mm needles).

Our yarn can be seen in the inset photo on the top picture on this page and again below that.  It is from Gedifra, Lana Mia Uni, a 80% virgin superwash/ 20% nylon, with 429 yards/ 100g.

This yarn had an amazingly soft feel to it while being plied and great for showing stitchwork. Two cakes of yarn will be in each kit so you will have about 858 yards.

Mauve is a soft lilac color, which reminds me of wisteria blooming in the springtime.

Beads?

Dee and I discussed the idea of beading a few of her designs and this is one that would lend itself well to adding beads.

Now as it currently stands, the pattern is bead-less and that is how your kit will come unless you add them (see the drop-down menu labeled "Kits").

If you do want to add beads, it will be up to you where to add them and how many.

We offer two options for beads.

You can get a 35g container of size 8/0s beads -- that will give you roughly 1,400 beads so you could really make this an amazingly glowing shawl.  However, be aware that with fingering weight yarn, it is easier to pre-thread size 8/0 beads.  We will include one of the dental floss threaded to help with that.

If you want size 6/0 beads, you will again get 35g but as these are larger, there will only be about 420 beads per container.  And those could easily be added via a thin crochet hook or one of our Verna-x's.

If you have a preference on bead color, let me know.  Otherwise I will choose for you.
